The Religious Affairs High Council of the Presidency of Religious Affairs has set the amount of fitra at 240 TL for the period from the month of Ramadan in 2026 to the month of Ramadan in 2027.
The High Council of Religious Affairs convened under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Abdurrahman Haçkalı. The meeting discussed the determination of the amount of fitra for the month of Ramadan in 2026.
"FITRA IS A FINANCIAL WORSHIP"
In the statement regarding the decisions taken after the meeting, it was noted: "Fitra (alms of fitra) is a financial worship that Muslims who possess the nisab amount of wealth, beyond their basic needs, must fulfill for themselves and for those they are responsible for, upon reaching the Ramadan Feast.
The act of fitra worship contributes to meeting the needs of the poor, strengthening the bonds of mutual love and brotherhood in society, allowing those in need to participate in the joy of the feast, and thus enabling the feast to be celebrated together by all segments of society. In this way, Muslims who have the means experience the joy of sharing and helping one another.
Fitra becomes obligatory with the dawn of the first day of Ramadan Feast, but it can also be given during the month of Ramadan to meet the needs of the poor for the feast.
In the hadiths, the amount of fitra has been determined based on the measurement unit used during the time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) from wheat, barley, dates, or dried grapes. It is understood that the determination of fitra from these products takes into account the economic conditions of the society at that time and the daily food needs of a person.
FITRA AMOUNT: 240 TL
In this context, it was decided that the amount of fitra in Turkey would be set at 240 TL for the period from the beginning of the month of Ramadan in 2026 to the beginning of the month of Ramadan in 2027, taking into account the relevant hadiths, current socio-economic living conditions, and a person's daily food needs.
Additionally, it was decided that each taxpayer could give the amount they determined as fitra, considering their daily food expenses, and that the determined amount could be given in cash or in kind, such as food items. This amount was also determined to be the daily compensation for fasting.
