In Mersin, a man who killed his ex-wife also killed 6 people and injured 8 others in armed attacks at a restaurant and in various neighborhoods. While efforts to capture the attacker, Metin Ö., continue, the Mersin Governor's Office stated in a statement about the attacker, "It has been determined that the suspect has had multiple hospital admissions due to banned substance addiction and various psychiatric diagnoses."
Armed attacks in the Çamlıyayla and Tarsus districts of Mersin caused great panic in the city. Metin Ö., who had his ex-wife killed, later targeted a restaurant where people he had a grudge against were located. As the suspect opened fire randomly in different locations, a total of 6 people lost their lives and 8 were injured.
Police teams launched a large-scale operation to capture the attacker. Helicopter support was also provided for the efforts.
FIRST ATTACK ON HIS EX-WIFE The beginning of the incidents occurred in the Darpınarı neighborhood of Çamlıyayla district. Metin Ö. argued with his ex-wife A.Ö. for an unknown reason. As the argument escalated, the suspect fired a shotgun he had with him and killed his ex-wife at the scene.
Metin Ö. RAIDED THE RESTAURANT OF HIS ENEMY After killing his ex-wife, Metin Ö. went to Tarsus by car and went to the restaurant of S.P., with whom he reportedly had a feud. S.P. and employee A.E.C., who were targeted by the attacker opening fire with a shotgun at the restaurant entrance, were seriously injured.
Some customers in the restaurant were also injured in the attack. Among the injured taken to the hospital, A.E.C. could not be saved despite all interventions by doctors.
Moments when the attacker raided the restaurant FIRE RANDOMLY ON ESCAPE ROUTE The horror of the attacker, who left the restaurant, was not limited to this. It was learned that M.Ö., who opened fire randomly around him during his escape, targeted people he encountered on the road.
As a result of the suspect's fire, A.K., 16-year-old Y.U. who was reportedly working as a shepherd, and truck driver G.S. were shot. The attacker, who continued firing along the road, disappeared.
The moments when he opened fire with a shotgun at a market from inside a car were captured on security cameras.
DEATH TOLL RISES TO 6 Upon reports, numerous police and health teams were dispatched to the incident areas. In the investigations, it was determined that A.Ö., S.P., and G.S. lost their lives at the scene.
A.E.C., A.K., and Y.O., who were taken to the hospital as injured, also died despite interventions. Thus, the number of deaths in the attacks rose to 6.
It was learned that the condition of 8 injured patients continuing treatment in hospitals is being monitored.

The statement made by the Governorship included the following expressions:
"On 18.05.2026, upon a report received at 13.52, it was learned that an armed attack incident occurred in the Kadelli neighborhood of our Tarsus district. Following the report, our security and health units were rapidly dispatched to the scene; in the initial investigations conducted, it was determined that the person considered to have carried out the attack left the scene by vehicle and carried out armed attacks on our citizens at different points. As a result of the incidents, 6 of our citizens lost their lives and 8 of our citizens were injured. Treatment of our injured citizens continues in relevant health institutions. It has been determined that the suspect had been admitted to hospitals many times due to substance addiction and had various psychiatric diagnoses. Work on the incident is being meticulously carried out by our security units, and the judicial and administrative process continues. We wish God's mercy upon our citizens who lost their lives, patience and condolences to their families, and urgent healing to our injured citizens."
"WE THOUGHT HE WOULD TAKE OUT A PHONE, HE TOOK OUT A GUN" M.H.T., who worked at the restaurant and survived the attack injured, described the events with these words:
"We were working at the shop, we had delivery service, I was preparing it. He entered the shop. I said, 'Relative, welcome.' He gave no sound, no reaction. Brother Sabri was weighing something like sausage or meat on the normal scale. We thought he would take out a phone or something, but suddenly he took out a gun, bang, he shot him in the mouth. I was bending down, he shot at me. It passed right by my ear."
BODIES TAKEN TO MORGUE The bodies of the 6 people who lost their lives were taken to the Tarsus State Hospital morgue for autopsy procedures. Police teams' investigation into the incident continues.
