Japanese automotive giant Toyota has decided to recall 105,794 vehicles in the U.S. due to the risk of fire caused by fuel leaks. It was announced that the decision covers certain versions of 2024-2027 model Toyota Land Cruiser Hybrid vehicles. The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) stated that the pipe connection near the fuel tank could break and leaking fuel could cause a fire. Repairs for the affected vehicles will be carried out free of charge.
Toyota has initiated a large-scale recall process in the U.S. due to a technical issue concerning vehicle safety.
In an announcement made by NHTSA on October 21, it was announced that 105,794 vehicles were being recalled due to a potential fault identified in the fuel system.
Officials reported that the issue in question could cause a fuel leak and, under certain conditions, create a fire hazard.
WHICH TOYOTA MODELS DOES IT COVER?
The recall decision covers the hybrid versions of the Land Cruiser, one of Toyota's popular SUV models.
According to the announcement, certain Toyota Land Cruiser Hybrid vehicles from the 2024, 2025, 2026, and 2027 model years are included in the recall.
However, it was stated that not all vehicles from those model years are being recalled, and only vehicles within the specified production range will be processed.
FUEL LEAK COULD CAUSE A FIRE
The reason for the recall was explained as a technical issue in the fuel pipe connection located near the fuel tank.
According to NHTSA's assessment, if the connection comes loose, a fuel leak can occur. If the leaking fuel comes into contact with an ignition source, the risk of fire in the vehicle increases.
Toyota reported that the issue with the connection could lead to a fuel leak until the hybrid system's gasoline engine stops.
REPAIRS WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE
Toyota announced that vehicles covered by the recall will be directed to authorized service centers.
At the service centers, the fuel pipe connection will be checked, and an additional clamp will be installed to prevent the connection from coming loose.
If deemed necessary, the resin fuel pipe will be replaced, and a new connection clamp will be installed.
The company announced that all inspection and repair procedures will be carried out without charging vehicle owners.
NOTIFICATIONS WILL BE SENT TO VEHICLE OWNERS
According to Toyota's statement, notifications will be sent to owners of vehicles affected by the recall by mid-December 2026.
Vehicle owners in the U.S. will be able to find out whether their vehicles are included in the recall by using their vehicle identification numbers (VIN) through Toyota's and NHTSA's official inquiry systems.
While it was announced that the recall decision covers 105,794 vehicles in the U.S., no information was shared regarding a recall decision taken in Türkiye due to the same issue.
