WHAT HAPPENED?Israeli soldiers opened fire on participants during a peaceful demonstration in the occupied West Bank, and Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi, who participated in the demonstration in support of Palestinians and also held US citizenship, was critically injured by a gunshot to the head. Eygi, who was taken to a Palestinian hospital, passed away on September 6 despite all interventions. After the procedures carried out by the Turkish Embassy in Tel Aviv and the Consulate General in Jerusalem, Eygi's body was brought from Tel Aviv to Baku and welcomed with ceremonies in Istanbul and Izmir. After the forensic procedures in Izmir, Eygi's body was taken to her hometown, Didim district of Aydın. Eygi was a volunteer human rights activist for the International Solidarity Movement, supporting Palestinians through peaceful and civilian methods against the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories. Rachel Corrie, a US citizen who was killed by an Israeli bulldozer in 2003, was also a member of the same movement.
