The Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT) announced that it has been decided to resume one-week repo auctions.
TERM REPO AUCTIONS ARE RETURNING
A statement regarding Turkish lira liquidity management was published on the CBRT's website. Accordingly, it was reported that it was decided to resume one-week repo auctions, which were suspended on March 1, 2026.
IMPORTANT FOR PROVIDING LIQUIDITY
One-week repo auctions are known as one of the main tools used by the Central Bank to provide Turkish lira liquidity to the banking system. In term repo auctions, banks can obtain TL funding from the Central Bank for a one-week maturity by pledging eligible securities they hold.
The reintroduction of term repo auctions is considered a step taken by the Central Bank towards normalization in liquidity management.
The decision alone does not imply a change in the policy rate. However, since it could affect through which channel and at what cost banks are funded, it is significant for TL liquidity in the market and the transmission of monetary policy.
