The Boğazköy Cemetery located in Arnavutköy was flooded with water and mud due to heavy rainfall. Visitors are struggling to use the site, while authorities are expected to provide a solution.
THE CEMETERY WAS FLOODED
The incident occurred in the Boğazköy neighborhood of Arnavutköy district in Istanbul. According to the information obtained, puddles formed in the cemetery area after days of heavy rainfall. It was observed that a large part of the cemetery was covered with water and mud. Footage taken by drone showed that the surroundings of the graves were flooded, the paths turned into mud, and citizens had difficulty reaching the cemetery.
"WE COULDN'T ENTER DUE TO THE MUD"
Caner Cudi, who came to the area for a cemetery visit, said, "We came for a cemetery visit. We tried to enter from the upper side, but we couldn't because it was very muddy. We somehow entered from this side, but everywhere was mud. We expect a solution from the authorities. There may be a problem with the drainage system. It shouldn't be like this," he said.
"WE HAD TO READ FATIHA FROM AFAR AND TURN BACK"
Abdullah Ergün, who reacted to the situation, stated, "Maintenance is needed here. The cemeteries are flooded. The grass needs care. We couldn't enter due to the mud, and we had to read a Fatiha from afar and turn back. It would be great if a solution is found. People want to come here for visits," he expressed.
According to meteorological data, the continuous rainfall in Istanbul lasted for approximately 82 hours, increasing soil saturation and making water drainage difficult.
