In Ankara, residents of an apartment building claimed that sewage water flooded their building for the second time in two and a half months after a road construction project by the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality. The building manager, stating that they have been suffering from bad odors and water cuts, said their applications to the municipality have been inconclusive and called on authorities for a solution.
Building manager Recep Çağlın, who stated that their building, where they have lived for 20 years, was flooded by sewage water twice in two and a half months after road work by the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB), rebelled against the municipality. Çağlın expressed that despite filing complaints with both the police and the municipality, he could not obtain any results.
“THE BUILDING IS UNINHABITABLE DUE TO THE SMELL”
Çağlın, stating that the building, which had not been flooded by sewage for 20 years, was now flooded, said: 'Pipes were laid on Şehit Ali Rıza Altın Street. After these pipes were laid, we have been experiencing this hardship. I am also the building manager. We have been devastated since yesterday. The building is uninhabitable due to the smell. We could not get any results from the municipality. We experienced the same hardship before. Yesterday morning, our water was cut off. It was said to come back at 00:00 at night, but it came back today at 11:30 AM. It was cut off again and will come back tomorrow at 06:00 AM.'

'I have a sick person at home. This is Ankara, the capital. I am experiencing this in this capital. I could not find a solution to my problem. I could not find anyone to express my problem to. I am helpless and victimized. I just want them to hear my voice. Let them see the work of the Metropolitan Municipality. Everything is clear. I have experienced many hardships before. How will this place be cleaned? It needs to be disinfected and painted. I have set aside the cost of the work for later. This is happening in the capital. I cannot find the words to say. Everything is as it seems.'

Çağlın, who said they heard the response from ABB, 'There was a disaster in Ankara, that’s why,' said, 'Our building being in this state has nothing to do with us. We experienced this entirely because the sewage water from above was blocked and hit our building. They dismissed us with 'That’s your problem, what can we do about a disaster.' Out of desperation, I called 112. When I called 112, the police came and said, 'Let’s file a report.' They said, 'We will file the report and notify the municipality.' As of now, there has been no response. I could not express my problem or myself to anyone.'
“WE ARE LEFT TO OUR FATE”
Çağlın, stating that he received no positive response from the municipality, said: 'No official has dealt with me. We are left to our fate. I want to file a lawsuit against the officials. No one is doing their duty, they are abusing it. We are experiencing hardship due to water cuts and sewage flooding. If we died here, no one would know, no one would find out. We are living at the mercy of fate. In my distress, I call 112. There is no one working, doing their job, or following up on things.'
