The Competition Board launched an investigation into 18 undertakings in the plant protection and nutrition products market to determine whether they violated the law through the exchange of competitively sensitive information. The investigation will examine how the sharing of price and sales information affects competition.
The Competition Board has decided to launch an investigation into 18 undertakings operating in the plant protection or plant nutrition products market.
INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED AGAINST 18 AGRICULTURAL COMPANIES
In a statement from the Competition Authority, it was stated that an investigation was initiated against 18 undertakings operating in the plant protection or plant nutrition products market to determine whether they violated the Law on the Protection of Competition through the exchange of competitively sensitive information.
In the statement, it was noted that plant protection products are designed to protect plants against pests, diseases, and harmful organisms, and that plant nutrition products aim to increase plant health, yield, and productivity by providing essential nutrients and enhancing physiological processes.
"SENSITIVE INFORMATION WAS SHARED"
In the statement, it was reported that within the scope of the investigation, it is aimed to examine the possible effects on competition of undertakings operating in the relevant markets sharing various competitively sensitive information with each other, such as product-based prices and sales quantities, targets to be achieved, applied maturity periods, and discount rates, and the following was noted:
"In this framework, whether the said information sharing reduces strategic uncertainty among competitors and may lead to coordination among competitors in the plant nutrition or plant protection markets will be evaluated within the scope of the Law."
The undertakings under investigation are as follows:
