Madeline Veronique Daly, a 36-year-old woman in the US, pleaded guilty in court to killing her 11-month-old son, Basil, after believing she was losing custody. Daly, who shot the baby in the head, faces a life sentence.
TOOK HER SON AND DROVE HUNDREDS OF MILES AWAY
It was stated that a custody dispute between Daly and the baby's father was behind the incident.
According to allegations, the dispute began last September. Daly left Wyoming with her 11-month-old son Basil and traveled over a thousand kilometers in a caravan to New Mexico. It was learned that the mother and son hid there for a while.
POLICE FOUND HER, SHOT THE BABY IN THE HEAD
Authorities tracked Daly down in December. Police teams launched an operation in the area where the woman was located with her son in the caravan.
However, before the teams could intervene, Daly shot her 11-month-old son in the head with a 9mm pistol.
It was reported that Daly then tried to point the same weapon at herself but was prevented by police intervention.
SHE SAID, “I'M NOT REMORSEFUL”
After being taken into custody, Daly's statements to the police became one of the most striking details of the investigation.
It was reported that Daly said she saw the decision to kill her son as justified and expressed no regret for her actions. The mother said she acted thinking that Basil's father and his family would never see the baby again.
FACES A LIFE SENTENCE
Appearing in court, Daly pleaded guilty to the murder charge. It was stated that her final sentence has not yet been announced and she could receive a life sentence.
