The murder of 23-year-old Akın Adlığ, killed in Denizli in 2006, was solved 18 years later through the work of a special team established for the case. The release of the defendant, who received a 17-year-6-month prison sentence for the murder, under judicial control conditions outraged the grieving family; mother Zarife Adlığ reacted to the decision, saying, 'They reopened our 20-year-old wound.'
The murder case that occurred on June 10, 2006, in Süngüllü Neighborhood of Çivril district of Denizli, which remained unsolved for many years, was solved as a result of comprehensive investigations. According to the information obtained, 23-year-old Akın Adlığ was killed by a firearm on June 10, 2006. To solve the murder, which remained unidentified for 18 years, a special team was formed under the coordination of the Çivril Chief Public Prosecutor's Office within the Denizli Provincial Gendarmerie Command. After meticulous examination, research, and evidence evaluation conducted continuously by the special team for about 2 years, Gökhan T., considered to be the perpetrator, was reached. The suspect, taken into custody based on the collected evidence, was referred to judicial authorities after his procedures.
SENTENCED TO 17.5 YEARS IN PRISON, RELEASED As a result of the trial, the court sentenced Gökhan T. to 17 years and 6 months in prison for the crime of 'intentional killing'. However, the court, considering the defendant's attitude during hearings and good behavior, decided to impose judicial control measures and ruled that the defendant be tried without detention. Following the decision, the Denizli Chief Public Prosecutor's Office objected to the decision regarding the defendant's release. The case file was sent to the Denizli Regional Court of Justice for evaluation. It has been learned that the Regional Court of Justice has not yet made a decision on the objection.
FAMILY REACTS TO THE DECISION Grieving mother Zarife Adlığ, who stated that her heart burns every time she testifies about her son's death, reacted to the suspect's release. Adlığ, saying she is 64 years old and has lived with this pain for 20 years, said, "If I see them arrested and put in prison, I will die with pride. My heart aches every time I tell the story. Every time my door rings, I feel like my son is coming. I raised him with so many hardships. After he disappeared, they directed me to the Denizli Prosecutor's Office. Even though my eyesight is poor, I went and said, 'I am a plaintiff until the end of my life.' I trusted my state, stepped aside. My only guarantee is again the state. Let them stay in prison for a lifetime. My son rotted in the ground; let them rot in prison. I will not let go of this until the end of my life. Let them not apply any statute of limitations. Let them accept that day as today; there is nothing else to do. My son harmed no one. My heart is broken; let theirs break too."
"THEY REOPENED MY 20-YEAR-OLD WOUND" Mother Adlığ, stating that it upsets them that both the murderer and those who helped him remain unpunished, said, "I asked for the harshest punishment in court. Maybe if they had taken him to a doctor, my son would have survived. They left him there and abandoned him to death. At the end of the hearing, they said 'get well' to him and 'you may go' to us. After he was released, they said 'your trial is over, you won't come again.' We came back out, we couldn't do anything. They said 'we gave the punishment.' Since I have no power, I take refuge in my state. I don't want them walking around free. What did they want from my innocent child? They reopened my 20-year-old wound."
"WHY DO THEY RELEASE HIM WHEN THERE IS EVIDENCE?" Father Zeki Adlığ, stating that he saw the defendant Gökhan T. for the first time during the trial via video link, expressed his reaction by saying, "They released the murderer of our son. I am a plaintiff. Why do they release him when there is evidence? I want him to receive the harshest punishment."
