On January 29, 2024, a brutal incident occurred in the Esenler neighborhood of the Yıldırım district in Bursa. Turgay Kındaç (48) struck his estranged wife Seher Kındaç on the head with a rolling pin and then strangled her to death. Turgay Kındaç later sent a message to his deceased wife's sister, saying, "You can't take Seher from me; I killed her. Send police and an ambulance to the house, I'm not joking." Upon seeing the message, the sister informed the couple's son, Hüseyin Kındaç. When Kındaç arrived home, he found his mother in a pool of blood in the kitchen and notified the police and medical teams. The medical team dispatched to the address determined that Seher Kındaç, a mother of two, had lost her life.
CONFESSED TO THE MURDER
Teams from the Homicide Bureau of the Provincial Police Department captured Turgay Kındaç, who had fled, one day after the incident and took him into custody. In his statement at the police station, Kındaç confessed to his crime, stating that he committed the murder out of "jealousy," saying, "On the last day of 2023, there was a morale night organized by the factory at my wife's workplace. That evening, my wife took a photo with someone named M. and shared it on social media. We had been arguing about this for about a month. On the morning of the incident, we had another argument. I hit my wife on the head with a rolling pin, then I strangled her. However, I don't remember what I used to strangle her." After his procedures at the police station and the courthouse, Turgay Kındaç was arrested.
INTERNET SEARCHES SHOCKED
In the indictment prepared at the end of the investigation conducted by the Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the autopsy report of the victim was also included. It was stated that Seher Kındaç was killed by being struck on the head with a rolling pin and then strangled with a rope, and that there were hemorrhagic fractures on her chin and throat. The arrested defendant, who confessed to his crime, was requested to be sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment for the crime of "intentional murder of a spouse." After killing his wife, the defendant took her mobile phone and credit card, and it was requested that he be sentenced to up to 15 years in prison for the crimes of "qualified theft" and "gaining benefit by using someone else's bank or credit card without permission," as he withdrew money from the card and sold the mobile phone. It was also revealed that Kındaç searched on Google before killing his wife, "How long does it take to strangle a person with a rope." The mobile phone call records were included in the case file.
"I STRANGLED HER WITH A CLOTH IN THE KITCHEN"
During the hearing at the Bursa 1st Heavy Penal Court, Turgay Kındaç, while apologizing to his two sons in the courtroom, defended himself by saying that he loved his wife very much and killed her out of "jealousy," stating, "She had sent a photo and a heart to a friend named M. from work. I felt jealous. Thinking that she was having a relationship with him, I checked her phone. I was ready to accept these. To prove my love for her, on the day of the incident, I drank bleach and ate rat poison. While we were still arguing, my wife used provocative and inciting phrases towards me. In the kitchen, seeing the white cloth on the kettle, I laid Seher down and strangled her with the cloth. I didn't deserve this," he said.
"I DID NOT INTEND TO KILL MY WIFE"
Turgay Kındaç also stated, "After I entered prison, I learned that my wife had died. I questioned myself a lot in prison. I had no intention of killing my wife. I always called her 'my life.' When I saw her photo with someone else, I felt jealous. My wife is my life," he expressed.
REQUEST FOR MITIGATION DUE TO UNJUST PROVOCATION
Turgay Kındaç's lawyer, Hakan Gündoğdu, argued that his client had been married for 25 years and that a person who had never used violence against his wife would not suddenly decide to kill her without a reason. Gündoğdu stated that the detained defendant acted due to his wife's statements about having cheated on him before the incident and requested that unjust provocation mitigation be applied.
HE WAS SENTENCED TO LIFE IMPRISONMENT
The court panel sentenced Kındaç to aggravated life imprisonment for "intentional murder of a spouse with premeditation," and in his final defense, the detained defendant stated, "Your Honor, I remember my dear wife with love and respect. May her place be paradise. Just as I am guilty in front of you, my wife's telling me that she cheated on me while looking into my eyes was also a crime. I wish it had never happened." The court did not apply any reduction in the defendant's sentence. Regarding the crime of "theft," it was decided that there was no need for punishment due to the fact that the victim was his wife.
