Following the arrest and removal from office of Etimesgut Mayor Erdal Beşikçioğlu due to a corruption investigation, an election was held for the acting mayor of the municipality. In the election, neither the AK Party nor the MHP put forward a candidate, while the New Party and the CHP competed for the acting mayorship. CHP's candidate, Seda Dilber, won the election in the 4th round against the New Party's candidate, Mehmet Özdemir, with the support of AK Party and MHP council members, and became the acting mayor of Etimesgut Municipality.
