In the district where viticulture dates back many years, Çavuş grapes are cultivated on approximately 2,000 decares of land. The Çavuş grape, which stands out with its thin skin, few seeds, and unique aroma and scent, has varieties such as "Çoban Çavuş," "Pembe Çavuş," and "Misket Çavuş."
"IT STANDS OUT FROM OTHER GRAPES WITH ITS TASTE"
Yasin Önder, the Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry, told AA correspondent that the harvest period for the geographically certified Safranbolu Çavuş grape, a local variety unique to Karabük, has begun. Önder stated that the Çavuş grape is distinguished from others by its specific characteristics, saying, "It has a thin skin, few seeds, and a crispy taste, which gives it a different flavor. This year, we believe the yield of the Çavuş grape will be good. We anticipate the yield to be between 1,000 and 1,500 kilograms per decare. I wish all our farmers a fruitful season."
THIS YEAR'S YIELD IS HIGH
Mehmet Siyami Yakupoğlu, a farmer from Konarı village, noted that they have been engaged in viticulture for about 35 years and cultivate 18 varieties of grapes on approximately 15 decares of land.
Yakupoğlu stated that they primarily produce Çavuş grapes, saying, "This year, our yield will be higher compared to previous years. Drought can sometimes be beneficial for grape growers with water. The disease agents are fewer. We are doing less pesticide treatment. There will also be less pesticide residue on the grapes."
Speaking about the characteristics of the Çavuş grape, Yakupoğlu said, "Çavuş grapes have a thin skin, dissolve immediately in the mouth, like sugar. We can say it is number one for table consumption. It is considered one of the most delicate varieties in the world. It leaves a good taste in the mouth. This year, our expectation is to obtain a yield of 1,500 kilograms from 1 decare. The retail price of the Çavuş grape is 150 lira."
