The expropriation process initiated at the Adana Bus Terminal, where the Adana Metropolitan Municipality decided on on-site transformation, has victimized business owners. Arif Demir, the father of a martyr, stated that the expropriation fee offered to him does not reflect the value of his labor and demanded expropriation at fair value.
The transformation button has been pressed for the Adana Bus Terminal, located in the Fevzipaşa Neighborhood of the Seyhan district and built on a vast area of approximately 122,250 square meters. The terminal, which houses 72 platforms, a 150-vehicle parking lot, nearly 200 workplaces, and offices for 28 bus companies, can no longer meet the city's needs in its current state.
LEGAL PROCESS INITIATED
Aiming to transform the bus terminal, which has completed its physical lifespan and become insufficient, into a modern structure, the Adana Metropolitan Municipality will implement the project through an on-site transformation model. Accordingly, the municipality has initiated the necessary legal processes for the expropriation of privately owned workplaces within the area.
DETERMINED COMPENSATIONS LOW
Workplace owners, arguing that the expropriation compensations are insufficient, reacted to the situation, stating they are being victimized. Leading the protesters is the father of a martyr, Arif Demir (70). Demir's son, Gendarmerie Senior Sergeant Major İsmail Demir, fell as a martyr in 2016 during a treacherous attack by the terrorist organization PKK on the gendarmerie building in the Beytüşşebap district of Şırnak.
"I WORK DESPITE BEING RETIRED, THIS PRICE IS TOO LOW"
Stating that he has two car wash shops at the bus terminal, Arif Demir reacted to the expropriation compensation offered by the municipality with these words:
"We have two shops. At this age, despite being retired, I still work. They offered 500 thousand lira each for the two shops. We objected and asked that the true value of our shops be given. We buried 50 years of our labor here. They are giving a very low amount; we cannot accept this."

Demir continued with the following words:
Reminding that he is a martyr's father, Demir said, "I am a martyr's father; I ask that they not victimize us. They know that I am a martyr's father. We are waiting now; I continue to work. We want a new bus terminal to be built here, but everyone's rights should also be given."
"WE DO NOT WANT PEOPLE TO BE VICTIMIZED"
Hıdır Yağmur, who runs a coffeehouse at the bus terminal, also requested that the expropriation compensations be reassessed, stating, "We do not want people to be victimized; everyone's rights should be given. Not too much should be given either. We have not yet received a notification, but many of our friends objected because they were given low amounts. Once we receive the papers, we will also object."
