The Strategic Political and Defense Committee, established under the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement signed between Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan, convened for the first time in Istanbul. At the meeting held at Çırağan Palace, topics including defense cooperation, joint production, counter-terrorism, and international security are expected to be addressed.
The first meeting of the Strategic Political and Defense Committee, established under the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement signed between Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan, has begun in Istanbul.
Representatives and delegations from the three countries came together at Çırağan Palace in Beşiktaş for the meeting. Before the meeting, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, National Defense Minister Yaşar Güler, and Chief of General Staff General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu chatted with Pakistani and Saudi Arabian officials.
FIRST MEETING AT ÇIRAĞAN PALACE
The first meeting of the Strategic Political and Defense Committee began after the delegations took a family photo. The meeting is expected to address defense cooperation, joint production, counter-terrorism, and international security topics.
HIGH-LEVEL PARTICIPATION FROM THREE COUNTRIES
Türkiye is represented at the meeting by Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, National Defense Minister Yaşar Güler, and Chief of General Staff General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu.
The Pakistani delegation includes Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, and Commander of Defense Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.
From Saudi Arabia, Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and Chief of General Staff General Fayyadh bin Hamed Al-Ruwaili are attending the meeting.
AGREEMENT SIGNED ON AUGUST 7
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif signed the Joint Defense Agreement in Mecca on August 7.
The agreement aims for Türkiye, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia to act with a sense of shared responsibility and regional ownership in the face of increasing instabilities in their regions and internationally.
The Mecca Joint Defense Agreement also aims to promote security, peace, stability, and prosperity among the three countries and to enhance common deterrence.
