After Galatasaray lost 4-1 to Barcelona in the second week of the UEFA Champions League, the whistling sounds heard in the TRT broadcast from RAMS Park became a topic of debate. The sounds heard at moments when the stands were empty brought to the agenda claims that artificial whistling was being played through the stadium loudspeakers. A response to the debate came from Galatasaray's stadium announcer Cemil Orhon.
WHISTLES HEARD WHILE THE STANDS WERE EMPTY
After the match, during TRT's live broadcast from RAMS Park, whistling sounds were heard at moments when there were no fans in the stands.
Following the footage, whether the sounds were being played through the stadium loudspeakers began to be debated. Some football fans raised the claim that artificial crowd sounds are used in matches to create pressure on opposing teams.
THE FIRST RESPONSE TO THE CLAIMS CAME
After the debates, Galatasaray's stadium announcer Cemil Orhon made a statement from his social media account. Orhon stated that the sounds heard in the TRT broadcast were not artificially generated whistling sounds in the stadium, but originated from the match highlights broadcast on the scoreboard after the match.
Orhon used the following statements in his explanation:
"In the UEFA Champions League, after matches, it shows the day's match highlights on the scoreboard without a commentator and with sound. The sound heard in the TRT broadcast is the sound of our match highlights."
"I DON'T EVEN HAVE A WHISTLE EFFECT IN MY ARCHIVE"
Orhon, who denied the claims that whistling sounds were played through the loudspeakers, argued that such a practice would not be accepted by the fans either.
Orhon, stating that the claims that the atmosphere created by the Galatasaray stands throughout the match was provided by artificial sounds were unfair to the fans, used striking expressions in his statement.
CEMIL ORHON'S 5-POINT STATEMENT
The full statement made by Galatasaray's stadium announcer Cemil Orhon on his social media account is as follows:
"1. In the UEFA Champions League, after matches, it shows the day's match highlights on the scoreboard without a commentator and with sound. The sound heard in the TRT broadcast is the sound of our match highlights.
2. In my archive, I don't even have a whistle effect or sound that I kept in case it might be needed one day.
3. Moreover, let alone UEFA and Turkish Football Federation officials, our stands would not allow such a sound; they would rightly react. Because this is actually mud thrown at the stands. In other words, they say, 'You are not the ones who shout until your voice goes hoarse for 90 minutes, defend with the team, attack with the team; it's the loudspeaker.' Do you think our stands would accept such mud?
4. If such an audio recording exists, come, let's do business with this; we would sell this idea to all stadium DJs in the world. I guess we are the only smart ones in the whole world.
5. Endless thanks to the 'Devoted Lives' who made the noise that those who heard could not believe their ears, who today walk around with hoarse voices, and who, even though we were defeated, showed the best of what they had in them and in their voices against the world's most in-form team. This slander is actually a compliment to them."
