ASSAD HAD FLED TO RUSSIA
Opposition groups led by Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) in Syria overthrew Bashar al-Assad and took control, while Bashar al-Assad and his family fled to Moscow. It was stated that asylum was granted to Assad by Russia.
During the Syrian civil war, Russia directly supported the Bashar al-Assad regime, establishing bases and deploying troops at various points in the country.
