Zafer Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ, who has been imprisoned for 149 days on charges of "openly inciting the public to hatred and hostility" due to social media posts, has been sentenced to 2 years, 4 months, and 3 days in prison. The court has decided to release Özdağ.
ÖZDAĞ'S FIRST WORDS AFTER RELEASE
Speaking to the press after his release from prison, Özdağ stated, "The Turkish people have not approved this decision in their conscience. And we have experienced here how the law has been used as a tool of enemy criminal law to suppress the opposition. They kept me in solitary confinement for 5 months without any crime. We have committed no crime. There are hundreds of pieces of evidence that prove we have committed no crime, and there is no evidence that we have committed a crime, but they can imprison you for 5 months using physical force alone. None of our constitutional and legal rights are guaranteed," he said.
