In the forest fire that broke out in the Gürsu district of Bursa, it was striking that a garden remained lush green in the area that turned gray. Halil Kiraz, who takes great care of his garden, stated, "I surrounded it with a road. I didn't leave any weeds under my trees and kept it constantly moist," explaining the reasons why the fire did not reach his garden.

On July 26, 2025, a fire broke out in the Gürsu district of Bursa, lasting approximately 2 days and burning around 100 hectares of land to ashes. A total of 1,800 personnel and 700 construction machines from 41 institutions participated in the firefighting efforts. The fire, which led to the evacuation of 1,765 people in 485 households in 3 villages, was extinguished, allowing villagers to return to their homes.
25 ACRES OF LAND WERE NOT AFFECTED BY THE FIRE
As life returned to normal, one garden in the agricultural areas that are the villagers' source of livelihood drew attention. While all the trees in the 100-hectare forest area turned to ashes, the nectar garden remaining in the Karahıdır neighborhood within the forest stood out with its lush greenery and fruits. While the soil surrounding the striking garden was covered with a gray layer, the fact that the 25-acre land belonging to Halil Kiraz within the 2B framework was not affected was met with great joy.
MY LAND IS ALWAYS MOIST AND THERE IS NO DRY GRASS
Halil Kiraz, a 53-year-old father of three, who stated that he took care of the land like his own eyes and performed all necessary maintenance and paid his tithe, described the reason why his garden did not turn to ashes with the following words:
"On Saturday afternoon, when I heard that a fire broke out between Gürsu İpekyolu neighborhood and Kestel Ağlaşan neighborhood, I went there with the villagers and our tractors. However, shortly after, we learned from a message sent by our muhtar that our village was also in danger. We then returned to our village. When we arrived, we couldn't believe our eyes. When I came to my field after it was extinguished, I saw that this place had not burned. The reason my field did not burn is that I irrigate with a drip system. Keeping it constantly moist and having no dry grass at the base of my trees was very effective. It seems we had a blessing. May Allah never let us experience that scene again."
THE FLAMES COULD NOT REACH BECAUSE THE LAND WAS SURROUNDED BY A ROAD
Kiraz, who stated that their village was evacuated but they did not leave, said, "We defended our village together with the fire brigade and municipalities. I think the reason my land was not reached by the fire is due to surrounding it with a road. My garden and the adjacent garden remained lush green because we performed the necessary maintenance on time. Allah protected this land. Our farmers should leave such areas around their lands. We saw the benefit. A few missing trees led to the survival of all of them. Our irrigation pipes were damaged. However, our lives and our village were saved. We do not think about that much damage," he said.
