The forest fire that broke out around 14:00 in the Kuyucak district of Aydın has been burning for hours due to difficult terrain conditions and adverse weather conditions. With temperatures reaching 40 degrees and winds up to 50 kilometers per hour fueling the flames, 17 aerial vehicles and 220 personnel are responding from the air and the ground. While extinguishing efforts continue unabated in the region, 2 forestry personnel were injured when a water tender overturned during the response. The teams' struggle to contain the flames continues.
A forest fire that broke out around 2:00 PM in the Gencelli neighborhood of Kuyucak district in Aydın has not been brought under control for hours despite all interventions. The steep and mountainous terrain conditions are making it difficult for teams to intervene from the ground in the fight against the flames, which are growing rapidly under the influence of the wind.
MASSIVE OPERATION FROM AIR AND GROUND
With the flames rising, Muğla Regional Directorate of Forestry and Aydın Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department teams were dispatched to the region. While 11 helicopters and 6 planes provide air support to the fire; on the ground, 40 water tankers, 5 water trucks, 3 bulldozers, and 220 personnel continue extinguishing efforts uninterrupted.
FRIGHTENING REPORT FROM METEOROLOGY: TEMPERATURE 40 DEGREES, WIND SPEED 50 KM
The forest weather forecast report prepared by the General Directorate of Meteorology for the region revealed how difficult the conditions are for the fight. It was reported that the temperature in the region reaches 40 degrees, humidity drops to as low as 15 percent, and wind speeds reach 50 kilometers per hour in gusts. The wind is expected to continue its effect during the night hours.
WATER TANKER OVERTURNED: 2 FIREFIGHTERS INJURED
While extinguishing efforts were ongoing, sad news arrived. A water tanker responding to the fire overturned in the challenging terrain conditions. UMKE teams were dispatched to the region to provide first aid to the 2 forestry personnel injured in the accident.
