The budget of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources for the year 2025 has been approved in the General Assembly of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). After the speeches on the budget in the General Assembly, the question-and-answer session began.
Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar stated that the criticisms during the discussions were evaluations far from reality. Expressing that they believe the expectations of the nation and the needs of Turkey are not clearly understood, Bayraktar said, "In this sense, there are unfortunately deep disagreements between us and the opposition on energy and minerals, which should be a part of our national security that we need to reach a consensus on. The opposition says, 'Turkey should not pursue nuclear energy. Developed countries have turned their backs on nuclear.' We say that Turkey should have a nuclear capacity of 20,000 megawatts by 2050. This way, it should prevent the import of 30 billion cubic meters of natural gas and reduce 140 million tons of carbon emissions." BAYRAKTAR: THE OPPOSITION SAYS NOT TO INVEST IN RENEWABLE ENERGYReminding that Turkey signed a declaration to triple its nuclear capacity at the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations (UN) Climate Change held in Baku, Azerbaijan, Bayraktar said, "Either these are not developed countries, or the opposition does not understand nuclear energy at all." Bayraktar, regarding renewable energy investments, stated, "The opposition says we should not invest in renewable energy. It will be nonsense, it will be trash. There should be no solar energy investment, no geothermal, no wind. We say that Turkey should maximize the integration of all renewable energy and environmentally friendly energy sources into its economy, contributing to the fight against climate change and reducing its energy imports." DEBATE ON ELECTRICITY AND NATURAL GAS IN TBMMStating that the opposition advocates for the cost of electricity and natural gas to be passed on to citizens, Bayraktar said, "We say that we provide electricity and natural gas to our citizens below cost. When you say, 'Give electricity at cost,' you are actually saying, 'Cut support to citizens, raise prices.'" He pointed out that the opposition accused the government of destroying nature in Gabar, and added: "We see that our beautiful country has suffered greatly from terrorism for years. We have now freed that region from the scourge of terrorism. Today, we have become capable of producing the highest quality oil in Turkey. This way, we have provided job opportunities for over 3,000 young people in that region, mostly from Şırnak. We actually understand your discomfort with this. You are actually uncomfortable with Turkey's energy independence under the guise of environmental concerns. You are disturbed by the light of hope in the eyes of these children and young people." "OUR NATION SEES"Bayraktar called on the opposition not to disregard the work done by tens of thousands of energy workers for the sake of opposition, urging them to see Gabar, Filyos, Akkuyu, the Bandırma Boron Carbide Plant, Lake Tuz, Silivri, the drilling ships in the Black Sea, and the energy projects in Somalia, saying, "Even if you do not see all of this, our nation sees it. We are also working with all our might for our nation and our country."
