The likelihood that operations against Iran, conducted in partnership between Israel and the United States, could turn into a ground operation is increasingly strengthening. Trump, who gave the green light by saying, "It would be perfect if the Kurds attack Iran," has also received the support he was expecting. Iranian Kurdish opposition groups, which have been in exile in Northern Iraq for years, state that they are ready for the operation, saying, "We have been preparing for this for 47 years."

As the attacks by the US and Israel on targets in Iran continue, the possibility of a ground operation has also begun to be discussed. However, it is said that in this scenario, it would not be American soldiers who would enter the field, but rather opposition groups fighting against Iran.

Speaking to the BBC, Iranian Kurdish opposition groups based in Northern Iraq stated that they have been preparing for an operation against Iran for a long time. However, they categorically denied claims that the Peshmerga had crossed the Iranian border.

"WE HAVE BEEN PREPARING FOR 47 YEARS"

Hana Yazdanpana, an official from the Kurdistan Freedom Party (PAK), said that they have been preparing for such a possibility since the establishment of the Islamic Republic in Iran in 1979. Yazdanpana emphasized that, so far, no fighters have crossed the border.

REQUEST FOR SUPPORT FROM THE US

Opposition groups express that they need US support to take action against Iran. Yazdanpana stated that the airspace needs to be secured and Iran's weapon depots need to be targeted for the fighters to advance.

It was reported that a request was made to the US to declare a no-fly zone in the region to protect Kurdish forces. However, the White House denied claims that US President Donald Trump was considering arming Kurdish groups.

ATTACK ON OPPOSITION BASES FROM IRAN

On the other hand, it was reported that the Iranian government has been conducting attacks on the bases of some Kurdish opposition groups in Iraq. In one of these attacks, a PAK base was hit by a ballistic missile, resulting in one death. It was noted that some groups evacuated their bases to protect themselves from the attacks.

"THIS WAR IS FOR THEIR OWN INTERESTS"

Mustafa Mevlidi, Vice President of the Iranian Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP-I), stated that the operations carried out by the US and Israel were initiated not for the hopes of the Kurds, but for their own interests. He also expressed that targeting the Iranian Revolutionary Guards could provide an advantage for Kurdish opposition groups.

KURDISH POPULATION IN IRAN

The Kurds, one of the largest ethnic communities in the Middle East, are spread across Iran, Iraq, Syria, and Turkey. It is estimated that Kurds make up about 10% of Iran's population of approximately 90 million.

Kurdish political leaders are calling on the international community to support them during the potential political change process in Iran. In response, the Iraqi government announced that it would not allow its territory to be used for attacks against Iran.

TRUMP SAID, "IT WOULD BE GREAT IF THE KURDS ATTACK IRAN"

US President Donald Trump stated that it would be "great" if Iranian Kurdish armed groups in Iraq attacked Iran. Responding to a question about the possibility of Iranian Kurdish forces stationed in Iraq crossing the border into Iran, Trump said, "I think it would be great if they wanted to do that. I fully support it." It had previously been reported, but not officially confirmed, that Iranian Kurdish forces in exile in Iraq were in contact with the US for a ground attack on Iran.
