Ahmet Arslan (42), a shopkeeper in Lise 1. Street in the Yenişehir district of Diyarbakır, noticed a suspicious person trying to forcibly take a 9-year-old boy by dragging him and attempting to cover his mouth while sitting in front of his workplace yesterday. With Arslan's verbal intervention, the child managed to escape from the suspect's grasp and moved away from the scene.
SAVED THE CHILD FROM KIDNAPPING After asking the suspect why he was behaving that way towards the child, a scuffle broke out between Arslan and the suspect. Following the scuffle, the suspect fled the scene, and Arslan injured two of his fingers. After learning about the incident, family members filed a complaint with the police and later visited Arslan to thank him. The police initiated an operation to capture the suspect upon the complaint of the child's family.
"I ASKED 'WHO ARE YOU?' HE SAID 'I'M HIS UNCLE'" In his statement, Arslan mentioned that he has been a shopkeeper on the same street for 5 years and that he saw a suspect trying to grab the child and cover his mouth while he was talking on the phone with a friend yesterday.
After the incident, the child and his family visited Ahmet Arslan. Arslan noted that he turned off his phone to intervene in the situation and stated:
"The child cried out, 'Brother, save me.' So I immediately hung up the phone. The child, in a panic, managed to escape from the suspect's grip and started running. I asked, 'Who are you?' He said, 'I'm his uncle.' I began to intervene. In the chaos, I injured two of my fingers. The incident continued. My fellow shopkeepers did not help as they were not aware of the situation. I chased the suspect to the street. I started shouting, 'He is kidnapping a child. The child asked me for help. I am asking you, let’s catch him together and hand him over to the police.' but he escaped."
"I ASK YOU TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR CHILDREN" Arslan reported that the family of the child applied to the police for the capture of the suspect after hearing about the incident, saying, "The child's family filed a complaint. I also went to the hospital for treatment. The family came to visit me to thank me along with their child. I was very happy. On one hand, I felt proud, and on the other hand, I felt sad. I hope our law enforcement will catch that suspect as soon as possible. I also ask people to take care of their children."
THE INCIDENT WAS CAPTURED ON CAMERA Meanwhile, the suspect's attempt to forcibly take the child, the shopkeeper's intervention, the scuffle between them, and the family's visit to thank Arslan were recorded by the security camera of the workplace.
