Turkish Airlines (THY) and Pegasus, which have not operated flights to Israel for 1.5 years, have also given up their flight slot rights at Ben Gurion Airport.
Turkey announced that it had suspended flights to Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv following the attacks launched by Israel on Gaza on October 7, 2023.
THEY WILL WAIVE FLIGHT SLOTS
According to a report by Türkiye Gazetesi, Turkish Airlines (THY) and Pegasus, which have not operated flights to Israel for over 1.5 years, have taken another step. Both Turkish airlines have decided to waive their flight slots at Ben Gurion Airport.
HAD KEPT FLIGHT DOORS OPEN TO ISRAEL
THY is known as the fourth largest airline using Ben Gurion Airport, while Pegasus is the twelfth, and both companies had kept the flight doors open to Israel by holding onto their flight slots.
WHAT IS A FLIGHT SLOT?
Flight slots are known as the permissions granted by the airport authority for an airline to land and take off on a specific day and within a specific time frame. This right also provides airlines access to airport services and infrastructure.
On the other hand, last week, Virgin Atlantic Airways, the largest airline in the UK, also decided to suspend its direct flights from London to Tel Aviv.
