A 12-day lockdown has been announced in the Bajaur district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in northwestern Pakistan due to an increase in monkeypox cases.
In a statement made by the authorities, the lockdown was implemented this week following the detection of 17 monkeypox cases in the region over the last 3 years. It was noted that most of the cases were linked to individuals coming from countries where the outbreak has been observed. The regional administration closed all entry and exit points to the affected area in order to prevent the spread of the virus. The statement included, "During the lockdown, only essential services such as supermarkets, pharmacies, stores, and emergency services will remain open."
LEGAL ACTION WILL BE TAKEN AGAINST THOSE WHO VIOLATE THE LOCKDOWN
Authorities warned that legal action would be initiated against those who violate the lockdown rules. The local population was urged to stay in enclosed spaces, cooperate with health teams, and adhere to health safety regulations. The State Health Directorate has increased observation efforts, particularly at entry points and health facilities, for the rapid detection and isolation of suspected cases.
