Heavy rainfall in Hatay caused a landslide disaster. A 15-year-old, Abdulhanan Elmuhammed, died in his sleep when the walls of a detached house on a hillside collapsed, while his sibling was seriously injured. It was learned that their mother had sent Elmuhammed, who lost his life, and his severely injured sibling to their sisters, thinking they would be 'safer'.

The landslide caused by heavy rainfall in Hatay led to the collapse of the walls of a detached house on a mountain slope in the Hacı Ömer Alpagot neighborhood of the Antakya district. Four members of the household, who were caught asleep during the landslide, were injured. Despite all interventions, 15-year-old Abdulhanan Elmuhammed, who was taken to the hospital, lost his life. In the incident, Abdulhanan's 10-year-old brother Abdulcelil Çelik Elmuhammed was also seriously injured.

SENT TO HER SISTER THINKING IT WAS SAFER

It was understood that the brothers were sent by their mother to their older sister's house for a visit in the afternoon, as their own home was considered unsafe. It was seen that the walls of the detached house, which became a grave for Abdulhanan Elmuhammed and caused serious injury to his brother Abdulcelil Çelik Elmuhammed, collapsed due to the landslide, while the ceiling remained intact. Mehmet Ceylan, who rushed to help the family at the first moment of the incident, described what happened, stating that the rainwater had no place to go and burst the house wall.

"I SAW THAT THE WALLS HAD BURST"

Mehmet Ceylan, stating that the 15-year-old child who lost his life in the incident suffocated while trapped under a sofa bed, said, "When I first arrived, I saw that the lower part was in very bad condition. Three people had been rescued, one person was missing. When I met the mother, she was in shock. I saw that the walls had burst. We observed that the rainwater and soil accumulation had no place to go, causing the walls to burst and resulting in the landslide. We looked around but couldn't find him. Finally, the child was found in the stream where the rainwater flowed. Our child had died from suffocation, trapped under the sofa bed."
