The investigation that started with a "suicide" report in Istanbul turned into a murder case when 16-year-old E.D. confessed to his cousin that he had killed his father. In his statement, E.D. claimed that he had been abused by his father, Murat Dilsiz, for about a year and that he had to remain silent because he was threatened along with his siblings. The mother and sister were referred to the Heavy Penal Court, while E.D. was sent to the Juvenile Heavy Penal Court.
The incident occurred on December 9, 2024, in a 5-story building on the 2nd floor of Güngören Sanayi Mahallesi in Istanbul. Eylem Dilsiz, who called the police, stated that her husband had committed suicide, and police and medical teams were dispatched to the scene. The teams determined that Murat Dilsiz, who was found lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the head, had died, and a gun was also found next to Dilsiz during the investigation.
THE COURSE OF THE INVESTIGATION CHANGED IN DIYARBAKIR
According to a report in Habertürk, the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation into the incident. The direction of the investigation changed in Diyarbakır, where they went for the funeral.
SHE CONFESSED TO HER COUSIN: "I KILLED MY DAD"
E.D. (16), the 13-year-old daughter of Murat Dilsiz at the time, confessed to her cousin Büşra Dilsiz that she shot her father. Following what E.D. recounted, the cousin reported to the prosecutor's office, leading to a deepening of the investigation. Eylem Dilsiz, the mother, and Rojin Dilsiz, the sister, were taken into custody, while the prosecutor prepared two separate indictments.
IN HER FIRST STATEMENT, SHE SAID "HE WAS ABUSIVE"
The first indictment prepared for E.D. was submitted to the Bakırköy Children's Heavy Penal Court. In the indictment, it was stated that E.D., who was 13 years old at the time of the incident, explained in her initial defense that her father had been abusing them for a long time, making insults and threats.
"I WORE GLOVES AND FIRED THE GUN"
E.D. stated that there was a dispute at home on the day of the incident, and thinking she could not endure any longer, she took the gun from under the sofa while wearing gloves and shot her father. She expressed that she used gloves to avoid leaving fingerprints and then threw the gloves into the apartment shaft from the toilet window.
"NO ONE HEARD THE GUNSHOT"
After shooting her father, E.D. went to her mother's and siblings' room to lie down, stating that no one woke up from the gunshot. She mentioned that after her siblings left for school in the morning, her mother saw her father, and upon this, she told her mother the truth. When the police were called, E.D. stated that she did not say she shot her father, asserting that no one directed her to commit this act and accepting the accusation.
EVERYTHING CHANGED IN THE SECOND STATEMENT: SEXUAL ABUSE
The second statement of E.D., taken on April 29, 2025, was also included in the indictment. In her second statement, she claimed that she had been abused by her father for about a year and that she was threatened with her siblings if she told anyone.
E.D. stated that they were constantly subjected to violence at home and said that she killed her father alone after the events of that day, asserting that no one incited her.
HER MOTHER DID NOT BELIEVE HER AT FIRST
She recounted that immediately after the incident, she went to her mother and told her that she shot her father, but her mother initially did not believe her. After going to check, her mother cried and asked why she did such a thing. However, she did not tell her mother that she had been abused at that moment, and when the police arrived in the morning, she remained silent, thinking that the incident would be considered a suicide.
SECOND INDICTMENT FOR MOTHER AND SISTER
The prosecutor's office, which continued the investigation into the incident, prepared a separate indictment that included the names of E.D., her mother, and her sister. The prepared indictment was sent to the Bakırköy Heavy Penal Court. The indictment included how the incident occurred and the application made after E.D. recounted the murder to her cousin, and it was noted that the mother's statement was taken in this context.
CLAIMED SHE DID NOT INCITE HER DAUGHTER
Eylem Dilsiz stated in her testimony that she was awakened by her daughter in the morning and saw her husband shot in the head, claiming she did not hear a gunshot during the night. The mother Dilsiz, who assessed the incident as a suicide, argued that she did not give her daughter a gun and did not incite her.
SISTER'S STATEMENT
Rojin Dilsiz, who is listed as a suspect in the case, stated that she woke up in the morning and saw her father covered in blood, and upon her screaming, her sister called the police. She expressed that she did not direct her sister regarding her father's shooting.
FORENSIC AND CRIMINAL EXAMINATION REPORT
The autopsy and criminal report of the victim were also included in the indictment. The autopsy indicated that the shot was fired from the right temple area, at close range, with a single lethal bullet. The criminal examination revealed that the gun found in the house had been converted from a gas gun to fire real bullets and was determined to be a prohibited weapon under Law No. 6136.
THE PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE SAID "IT IS AGAINST THE ORDINARY COURSE OF LIFE"
The prosecutor's office evaluated that E.D. was not at a maturity level to think that she needed to wear gloves to avoid leaving fingerprints before the incident, that it was impossible to throw the gloves into the apartment shaft where they could not be found, and that she should have washed her clothes that might have been contaminated with gunpowder after taking a shower. Furthermore, although the incident occurred at night in the house where they all lived together, it was deemed impossible for her mother Eylem and sister Rojin, who were in the same house, not to hear the gunshot. E.D.'s statement to her mother that she shot her father immediately after the incident and Eylem going to the room and seeing the victim shot, yet waiting for morning instead of calling 112, was evaluated as participation in the act.
HEAVY LIFE SENTENCE SOUGHT FOR ALL THREE NAMES
In the indictment, aggravated life sentences were requested for E.D., Eylem Dilsiz, and Rojin Dilsiz for the crime of "deliberately killing a relative or spouse, ex-spouse, or sibling," and a prison sentence of 5 to 8 years for the crime of "unlicensed possession of a firearm."
