Bangladesh's Deputy Foreign Minister Humayun Kabir announced that Bangladesh has been invited to the Joint Defense Agreement of Mecca signed by Turkey, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia.

The Mecca Joint Defense Agreement was signed on August 7 between Turkey, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia. Bangladesh's participation in the agreement has come to the agenda.

"IT IS NOT UNUSUAL FOR US TO CONSIDER JOINING"

Bangladesh's Deputy Foreign Minister Humayun Kabir said in a statement to reporters on Monday that Bangladesh had been invited to the agreement. Kabir said, "If there is a security agreement among Islamic countries in the Middle East, it is not unusual for us to consider joining it. This matter is viewed positively. They are inviting Bangladesh, especially Prime Minister Tariq Rahman, to join."

SAUDI ARABIA ALSO INVITED

An unnamed source from Bangladesh's Ministry of Foreign Affairs also stated that Saudi Arabia had invited Dhaka to join the agreement, without providing information on when the invitation was made. According to the agreement, an armed attack against any of Turkey, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia will be considered an attack against all three countries.

MECCA JOINT DEFENSE AGREEMENT

The agreement constitutes defense-oriented cooperation that does not target any country and aims to strengthen commitments to preserving regional and global peace, stability, and prosperity based on burden-sharing and a common security understanding.

Aiming to strengthen collective deterrence against any act of aggression, the agreement stipulates that any armed attack against any of the three states will be considered an attack against all of them.

The agreement also has the nature of a defense-oriented arrangement aimed at developing defense industry cooperation and military interoperability, as well as the commitment of the three countries to support each other's security.
