The Israeli and Hamas negotiation teams signed an agreement for the release of hostages and a ceasefire in Doha early this morning after 15 months. The Israeli War Cabinet, convened in West Jerusalem with the participation of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, recommended the approval of the ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement in Gaza.

CRITICAL TIME FOR CEASEFIRE 16:30

After the War Cabinet, the Cabinet of Ministers will convene at 16:30 to discuss the ceasefire. If approval is granted from the discussions, it is anticipated that the implementation of the agreement will begin on Sunday. The acceptance of the ceasefire will not be formalized until it is approved by the War Cabinet and the government.

TERMS OF THE AGREEMENT

Following the announcements that a ceasefire and hostage agreement had been reached, Arab media published the alleged provisions of the agreement. It is stated that the agreement will include the supervision of the return of refugees from the south of the Gaza Strip to the north by Qatar and Egypt, and that the withdrawal of the Israel Defense Forces from the Netzarim corridor will be completed gradually. Hamas has requested that the mediators determine when the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) will withdraw based on a timetable.

FIRST STAGE

The first stage of the agreement will last 42 days and will begin 2-3 days after the signing of the agreement. The Israel Defense Forces will withdraw from the Netzarim corridor and all settlements in the settlement area to about 700 meters from the border, but in the specified five areas, this distance will be 400 meters. It is reported that the Israel Defense Forces will reduce their presence in the Philadelphia corridor and will completely withdraw within the first 50 days.

RAFAH BORDER CROSSING

Israel has agreed to open the Rafah border crossing one week after the agreement comes into effect, while a protocol for humanitarian aid will be included in the first phase of the agreement under the supervision of mediators. Israel is expected to begin preparations to immediately start the passage of aid. Israel will open the crossing to civilians after releasing all women held by Hamas, both civilians and soldiers. After the Rafah Border Crossing is reopened to civilians, all injured and sick Palestinian civilians will be allowed to pass through. Hamas will be allowed to transfer 50 injured workers to Egyptian hospitals every day. However, each transfer will be subject to the approval of both Israel and Egypt. The border crossing will continue to be jointly operated by Israel and Egypt.

RETURN OF GAZA REFUGEES

Israel will begin to allow unarmed refugees to return to the north of the Gaza Strip on foot; however, searches will be conducted in the first week. After the first week, unarmed refugees will be allowed to return to the north without searches via Al-Rashid street on the coast. Two weeks later, they will be allowed to return via the central Salah al-Din road. After the first week, refugees will be allowed to return north in vehicles monitored by a special company determined by the mediators in coordination with Israel.

RELEASE OF HOSTAGES

The Prime Minister of Qatar confirmed that 33 hostages will be released: first women and children, then female soldiers, followed by men over 50 years old and young men defined as "humanitarian cases." In return, Israel will release approximately 2,000 convicted terrorists, about 250 of whom have been sentenced to life imprisonment. Additionally, Israel will release about a thousand terrorists captured after October 7. For the release of 110 terrorists sentenced to life imprisonment, 9 sick or injured hostages will be released.

Israel will release 1,000 Gazan detainees who were arrested after October 8, 2023, none of whom were directly involved on October 7. As previously reported by The Jerusalem Post, no terrorists involved on October 7 will be released under the agreement. Elderly hostages over 50 years old will be released for each elderly hostage, with 27 life sentences for each prisoner and 31 other prisoners.

Avera Mengistu, who has been detained since 2014, and Hisham al-Sayed, who has been detained since 2015, will be released, with 30 detainees and 47 additional detainees for each. Both entered the Gaza Strip while experiencing long-standing mental health issues, raising concerns about their well-being. Mediators promised to issue a UN Security Council resolution supporting the declaration of a ceasefire to ensure compliance by the parties.

BEN-GVIR: ISRAEL HAS SURRENDERED

While most ministers in Netanyahu's cabinet are expected to approve the ceasefire, National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich had previously expressed their opposition to the ceasefire agreement in statements. Ben-Gvir called on Smotrich to resign from the government together if the agreement is reached. Additionally, Ben-Gvir stated regarding the ceasefire agreement, "The joy we witness in Gaza and the West Bank shows who has surrendered in this war."

TRUMP: IT WOULD BE BETTER IF THE CEASEFIRE OCCURS BEFORE THE OATH

Donald Trump, the elected president of the United States, stated in a statement on Thursday that it would be "better if a ceasefire is achieved between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip before taking the oath next week." Speaking on the Dan Bongino Show podcast, Trump said, "If we hadn't been involved in this agreement, it would never have happened. No agreement would have happened, and the hostages would probably never see life again."
