The leader of the CHP, Özgür Özel, will visit the dismissed Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer in prison on Friday, November 29.

CHP General Chairman Özgür Özel will visit Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer, who was arrested on charges of "membership in the PKK/KCK organization" and replaced by a trustee.

Özel will go to Marmara Prison on Friday, November 29, at 08:30 to meet with Özer.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Ahmet Özer, the Mayor of Esenyurt, was taken into custody from his home on the morning of October 30 as part of an investigation into "membership in the PKK/KCK organization."

According to a statement from the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was claimed that Özer, who is also an academic, had met with 694 individuals over a retrospective 10-year review, who were alleged to be "members of the organization."

It was noted that Özer's meeting with former KCK MP Remzi Kartal took place during the resolution process in 2015.

On October 31, the Ministry of Interior announced that Özer had been removed from office and that Istanbul Deputy Governor Can Aksoy had been appointed as the trustee for Esenyurt Municipality.
