A zoo employee was mauled to death by a lion in front of visitors. A zoo employee was brutally killed for failing to secure the door while feeding the lion in front of horrified spectators. This tragic incident occurred at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library Wildlife Park in Abeokuta, Nigeria. It was reported that 35-year-old zookeeper Babaji Daule was attacked by the wild animal while demonstrating the lion's feeding routine on Saturday. According to a statement from the presidential library: "The zoo employee apparently felt comfortable with the animal, left the security gate open, and continued to feed the animal. He was mauled by the animal and died at the scene." According to the BBC, park staff had to immediately euthanize the lion to prevent it from further mauling the body. Local police spokesperson Omolola Odutola confirmed that the lion was euthanized "to prevent further mutilation of the body." Odutola also noted that the zoo employee was pronounced dead around 7:40 AM on Saturday. According to Mirror's report, this horrific death has sparked anger and concern among Nigerians regarding the safety protocols and management of zoos housing dangerous wildlife. This incident comes just hours after a woman nearly lost her hand after reaching into a tiger enclosure at a zoo, following a similar act of entering a bear cage. The 24-year-old woman entered a restricted area next to the tiger and bear enclosures at the Cohanzick Zoo in Bridgeton, New Jersey, on August 18, coming face to face with a 500-pound Bengal tiger.
