A 70-year-old shepherd, A.K., who went missing in the Yakutiye district of Erzurum, was found alive after two days of intensive search efforts. Gendarmerie and search and rescue teams located the shepherd and the missing small livestock. The elderly shepherd stated that he lost his way due to the fog.

On Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at around 08:30 in the Çayırtepe neighborhood of Yakutiye district in Erzurum, a 70-year-old shepherd named A.K. went out to graze 180 sheep belonging to İdris Çakmak, but did not return by evening. After the neighborhood residents conducted searches without success, a report was made to the 112 Emergency Call Center around 19:00.

FOUND 5 KILOMETERS AWAY

Following the incident, teams from AFAD, the Provincial Gendarmerie, and the Yakutiye Gendarmerie Command began search efforts. The search involved 5 Public Order Teams (20 personnel), 2 JAK Teams (15 personnel), 2 JÖH Teams (30 personnel), 3 AFAD teams (30 personnel), 9 vehicles and 22 personnel from the Adventure Off-Road Club, and 3 tracking dogs. Additionally, the Gendarmerie General Command conducted aerial reconnaissance in the area with 1 ANKA UAV and 1 Bayraktar TB2 UAV.

Due to heavy fog and cold weather conditions, the search was temporarily halted during the night and resumed the following morning. As a result of the search, shepherd A.K. and his flock were found safe by the JÖH Teams of the Provincial Gendarmerie Command approximately 5 kilometers away from the point where he went missing.
