The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has determined that the administrators of the "Paws Holding on to Life Association" caused a public loss of 18 million 627 thousand 848 lira as part of the investigation launched regarding the crime of abuse of trust due to service.

The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation due to the managers of the "Patters Holding on to Life Association" causing a public loss of 18 million 627 thousand 848 lira. The association's president, Buket Özgünlü, and 14 suspects are being processed for the crimes of abuse of trust and money laundering.

THE INVESTIGATION OF "PATTERS HOLDING ON TO LIFE" CONTINUES

The investigation initiated against 14 suspects, including Buket Özgünlü, the president of the Patters Holding on to Life Association, for the crimes of "money laundering from the proceeds of crime" and "abuse of duty due to service" is ongoing.

THEY USED DONATION MONEY FOR THEMSELVES

In the file submitted to the Reconciliation Bureau, it was stated that the money sent by citizens for the purpose of achieving the association's goals was used outside of those goals. It was reported that the donation money received in the association's account was used by the association's managers for personal enrichment and asset acquisition.

THEY CAUSED PUBLIC LOSS WITH FAKE INVOICES

The file indicates that the association's legal entity and certain pet food companies were used as tools in money laundering activities, and that fake invoices were issued in the name of pet food companies in the commission of the money laundering crime, resulting in public loss due to the association's legal entity.

IRREGULARITIES IN THE MASAK REPORT

The file, which also includes a report from the Financial Crimes Investigation Board (MASAK), revealed that some cash and transfer transactions were not used within the scope of the association's activities. It was reported that some of the amounts in the association's accounts were transferred back to the accounts of the association's board president, Buket Özgünlü, and close family members through various transactions. It was explained that some suspects unlawfully acquired assets under the name of "donations" made to the association's legal entity, using family companies as tools in these transactions.

The report prepared by the expert committee stated that according to the associations legislation, a general assembly decision is required to pay "honorarium" to board members, but it was noted that the Patters Holding on to Life Association unlawfully established an honorarium for a board member without a general assembly decision.

18 MILLION LIRA FRAUD

In the file, the testimony of a witness, Ş.G., indicated that the suspect Özgünlü organized a pet food donation campaign for the animals she cared for, and that she invoiced the pet food received as donations as if it were purchased from the pet food company established by her own family. She also stated that she directed individuals wishing to benefit from boarding services to the boarding facilities she had agreements with and received commissions in return for this work.

It was also understood that the legal entity of the association was caused millions of lira in losses by the suspects in this way, and that despite there being no pet food purchases in 2022 and 2023 on behalf of the pet products company owned and managed by Özgünlü's fugitive husband, Tuna Boyacı, numerous fake invoices regarding the purchase and sale of dog food were issued on behalf of the association.

The file states that the suspects Aleyna N.S., Alev E., Buket Özgünlü, Demet K., Evren Kılıç, Tuğçe S., Cemal Ö., Aynur T., Birkan S., Ertan Işık, Fatma Ö., Rüya B., Tuğba T., and Yosma B. caused a public loss of 18 million 627 thousand 848 lira. - ANKARA
