In Istanbul, Nurdan Yalçın, one of the families victimized by the newborn gang, claimed that there were negligence issues at the hospital where she gave birth to her daughter 4.5 years ago. Yalçın stated that her daughter, who has cerebral palsy, became ill due to the hospital's negligence, saying, "From the very beginning, there were situations that we suspected. We knew from the start that it was the hospital's negligence. If it weren't for their negligence, my daughter would be healthy right now."

In Istanbul, families victimized by a newborn gang, which is alleged to have caused the deaths of emergency patients by transferring them to private hospitals' neonatal units with prior agreements and profiting unfairly, are coming forward one by one. Nurdan Yalçın, who gave birth to her daughter at a hospital that has since closed down 4.5 years ago, claimed that her daughter, who struggles with cerebral palsy, became ill due to hospital negligence. New reports continue to emerge regarding the gang that keeps newborns in intensive care to receive 8,000 lira daily from the Social Security Institution (SGK).

A mother who gave birth at one of the gang's hospitals spoke: 'We knew from the beginning that there was negligence'

The Yalçın family, one of the victims who spoke to TV100, also claimed that their 4.5-year-old daughter Eylül's cerebral palsy condition arose due to hospital negligence. Eylül, the daughter of the Yalçın family, was born healthy 4.5 years ago. Exactly 10 hours after her birth, she was taken to the neonatal intensive care unit and remained away from her mother for 21 days.

"I LEARNED THAT GENERAL ANESTHESIA WOULD BE ADMINISTERED DURING THE SURGERY"

Nurdan Yalçın, who recounted the process that began with her daughter's birth to TV100, described her anxiety during the delivery: 'My daughter was born during the pandemic, and we went to many hospitals. We went to the last mentioned private hospital. We really trusted the doctor. Many people had said that the hospital and the doctor were good. We were constantly having our check-ups. We waited for a normal delivery for 40 plus 6 days. Then we went to the hospital, and they administered artificial labor. When they said the baby's heart rate was slowing down, I was told I needed to have a cesarean. I signed the necessary documents, but the most important information was not given to me. I thought general anesthesia would be administered, but I was anesthetized after the halfway point. Normally, this should have been communicated. I learned during the surgery that general anesthesia would be administered, and I was told that it would be less risky due to the pandemic. The staff there told me not to move, or I would be disabled. Psychologically, I was already broken. I was at their mercy, and the injection was given. I was constantly crying, and after a while, a sedative was administered. I saw my daughter Eylül, but I didn't even realize that I had seen her. I was in shock at that moment. My family was also surprised when I came out awake. They took Eylül to the incubator there.' she explained.

Nurdan Yalçın, who described how her newborn daughter was taken to intensive care and the 21-day unknown process, stated:

'From the very beginning, there were situations we were suspicious of. We knew from the start that there was negligence on the part of the hospital. If it weren't for their negligence, my daughter would be healthy now because she was born healthy. After Eylül came to us, her nails were purple, and her reactions were very calm. When they took Eylül to intensive care, they said, 'her condition is very bad, we took her to intensive care.' After 21 days, there was no problem. They gave us a medication, and we didn't even know what the medication was. When she was 3 months old, my daughter was diagnosed with epilepsy. When she was 6 months old, we had an MRI done at one of the closed hospitals, and there she was diagnosed with cerebral palsy.'

WHAT IS CEREBRAL PALSY?

Cerebral palsy is a lifelong physical disability that occurs due to the inability of the areas of the brain that control muscle movements to develop or be damaged during the prenatal, perinatal, or postnatal period. It affects the ability to control muscles, and motor skills such as movements and posture do not function properly. Common symptoms of cerebral palsy include difficulty moving, speech difficulties, uncontrolled movements, muscle stiffness, and irritability.

If a baby is crying excessively for no reason, keeps their hands clenched with their thumbs inside their palms, and shows asymmetry in arm and leg movements, it is essential to consult a pediatric neurology department.
