The murder of Fatma and İbrahim Teryaki couple, killed in 2016 in Ürgüp district of Nevşehir, was solved 10 years later with the confession of their grandson Özcan Teryaki. Suffering from psychological distress and nightmares, the grandson confessed to committing the murder together with his mother.

The murder of Fatma (79) and İbrahim Teryaki (74), killed in the village of Mazı in the Ürgüp district of Nevşehir, was solved 10 years later. It was determined that their grandson, Özcan Teryaki, who was found to be suffering from psychological distress, nightmares, and disturbing those around him, committed the murder. Of the 7 people detained in connection with the incident, Özcan Teryaki was arrested, while his mother, N.T., was released under judicial supervision.

The incident occurred on January 5, 2016, in the village of Mazı, Ürgüp district. On January 6, İbrahim and his wife Fatma Teryaki were found dead, shot with a shotgun in their detached house by their grandson, E.T. Following the examination of the evidence sent to the Ankara Criminal Department, their grandson E.T., on whose jacket sleeve gunpowder residue was found, was arrested. After E.T.'s arrest, it was learned that N.T. and her son Özcan Teryaki created a perception by discussing the matter in the village and tried to cover up the incident and divert attention elsewhere. E.T., who served 14 months in prison, was acquitted by the Nevşehir 1st High Criminal Court due to lack of evidence.

TEAMS PUT THE FAMILY UNDER CLOSE PHYSICAL AND TECHNICAL SURVEILLANCE

Due to the acquittal of E.T., who was considered a suspect, the incident remained unsolved and the investigation continued. The unsolved murder, which remained unresolved for years and continued to be debated in public, was taken up again in 2026 and began to be re-examined. Under the coordination of the Nevşehir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, all past details of the incident were re-examined by the Provincial Gendarmerie Command teams, witness statements were updated, and technical and physical surveillance work was carried out confidentially. The teams, considering the possibility that the suspect or suspects who committed the incident might be family members, placed the family under close physical and technical surveillance.

THE GRANDSON SUSPECTED OF THE MURDER HAD NIGHTMARES

As a result of the studies, it was determined that the suspect Özcan Teryaki experienced psychological breakdown after the incident, woke up startled by nightmares at night, and exhibited nervous behavior towards those around him. Based on the information obtained, Özcan Teryaki and everyone he contacted were placed under close surveillance. As the investigation deepened, through interviews with people the suspect Özcan Teryaki contacted, new evidence obtained, and technical studies, it was determined that he killed his grandfather and grandmother. In simultaneous operations organized by gendarmerie teams, Özcan Teryaki, his mother F.T., N.T., R.Ç., E.P., M.G., and S.T. were caught.

MOTHER AND SON CONFESSED TO THE MURDER

In the cross-examinations, Özcan Teryaki and his mother N.T. confessed that they committed the murder due to 'family feud,' that Özcan Teryaki carried out the murder, that N.T. witnessed the incident, and that after the incident, they acted together with Özcan Teryaki to thoroughly clean the scene and destroy evidence and traces. After the confessions, the suspects were shown the locations, and it was confessed that the unlicensed shotgun used in the incident was thrown into the Kızılırmak River by Özcan Teryaki. Of the detained suspects, Özcan Teryaki was arrested and sent to prison after his procedures, while his mother N.T. was released under judicial supervision.
