With the clarification of May inflation data, the 5-month cumulative inflation rate was recorded at 16.61 percent. While only the June data is awaited for salaries to be finalized, economist Muhammet Bayram, who was awarded the "Economy Commentator of the Year" by President Erdogan, made a precise July raise calculation down to the penny live on air.

The countdown for the July salary increase period, eagerly awaited by millions of employees and retirees in Turkey, has accelerated. Following the announcement of May inflation at 1.71 percent, the 5-month cumulative inflation rate has officially reached 16.61 percent. Only a single data point, June inflation, is now awaited for the new salary tables to be finalized.

AWARD-WINNING ECONOMIST COMMENTED

As this market activity continues, Altınbaş University Faculty Member and Economist Muhammet Bayram, who was deemed worthy of the "Economy Commentator of the Year" award by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, shared new salary calculations based on current data with the public during a live broadcast on CNN Türk. In the live broadcast, Muhammet Bayram, noting that the 5-month cumulative inflation had reached 16.61 percent, reminded that the raise differences concerning this period were at 16.67 percent at the beginning of last year. Bayram emphasized that alarm bells are ringing on the inflation front with the current data and stated that he expects the annual inflation increase series to continue in June.

TOTAL 6-MONTH INFLATION...

Bayram, stating that he predicts June inflation to be at 1.5 percent, expressed that if this estimate materializes, the total inflation for the first 6 months will rise to around 18 percent.

18 PERCENT RAISE IN HAND

Referring to the differences that will occur according to salary groups, Economist Bayram stated that SSK and Bağ-Kur retirees will directly guarantee an 18 percent raise increase in line with this 6-month rate. On the other hand, Bayram said the situation is slightly different for civil servants and retired civil servants due to collective bargaining conditions, emphasizing that the 5-month inflation difference remains at 12.41 percent, indicating that retired civil servants will receive a lower raise rate compared to other retiree groups.

NEW FIGURE FOR THE LOWEST RETIREE SALARY: 24 THOUSAND TL LIMIT

Muhammet Bayram, reminding that housing, transportation, and food are the items where households spend the most, stated that the adjustment to the minimum retiree salary is critical to balance the purchasing power eroded by inflation. Bayram summarized the possible scenario for July with these figures: "The current minimum retiree salary, which is currently applied as 20 thousand TL, will rise to around 23 thousand 600 TL to 24 thousand TL in July with the possible 18 percent raise formula to be reflected after the June data. Our calculations point to these levels in the current inflation trend."
