Selami Yıldız has been appointed as the new head of the Istanbul Police Department, replacing Zafer Aktaş. He is the Deputy Chief of Police and the Head of Police Intelligence.



Zafer Aktaş, who has been serving as the Istanbul Provincial Police Chief for over four years, will complete his term on December 5 due to age limits. Following this, Selami Yıldız, the Deputy Chief of Police and Head of Police Intelligence, has been appointed as the new Istanbul police chief.



It is expected that Yıldız's appointment will be published in the Official Gazette with the signature of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.



WHO IS SELAMİ YILDIZ?



Selami Yıldız was born in Istanbul in 1968. He graduated from the Ankara Police College in 1986 and from the Police Academy in 1990. Between 1998 and 2000, he served as the Security Attaché at the Portuguese Embassy. He was promoted to 1st Class Police Chief in 2014. In 2017, he was appointed as the Provincial Police Chief of Adana. Following the decision published in the Official Gazette on August 2, Yıldız was appointed as the Deputy Chief of Police.
