After the meteorology's warnings of "heavy snowfall," the snowfall in Hakkari brought life to a standstill. A mass of snow accumulated on the roof of the country fell on two female students passing by. One of the students trapped under the snow mass was rescued with the intervention of her friends. It was learned that the student's health condition is good, while massive snow masses falling from the roof of a building in Şemdinli knocked down electricity poles.
After the "heavy snowfall" warnings from the General Directorate of Meteorology, the snowfall that has been effective in Hakkari brought daily life to a standstill. Massive snow masses accumulated on the roofs of numerous buildings fell down. Two students were trapped under the snow mass that fell from the roof of the dormitory, while snow masses that fell on electricity poles caused interruptions. Additionally, five vehicles trapped between two avalanches on the road were rescued.
2 STUDENTS TRAPPED UNDER THE ROOF AVALANCHE
Two female students were injured after being trapped under the snow mass that fell from the roof in Hakkari. According to the information obtained, the incident occurred in the evening hours in the Merzan neighborhood. A snow mass that had accumulated on the roof fell on two female students passing in front of the GSB Hakkari Dormitory building.
The students trapped under the snow mass were rescued with the help of other students nearby. Health teams were dispatched to the scene upon notification. The two injured students were taken to Hakkari State Hospital by ambulance. It was learned that the health conditions of the students under treatment were good.
SNOW MASSES TOPPLED ELECTRICITY POLES
In the Navşar neighborhood of Şemdinli district, tons of snow accumulated on the roof of a building slid down with a loud noise. The snow mass that fell on the electricity poles in front of the building severed the energy lines. While there was a power outage throughout the neighborhood, the incident was captured by security cameras second by second. The footage showed that the concrete poles were crushed like paper as the snow mass fell, and the surrounding area was covered in snow dust.
"ROOF AVALANCHE" WARNING
Immediately after the incident, the repair teams that sprang into action began working in the area despite the freezing cold and high snow thickness. While efforts to restore energy to the neighborhood continued uninterrupted, officials warned citizens to avoid passing under roofs and to be cautious against the "roof avalanche" danger.
5 VEHICLES TRAPPED BETWEEN 2 AVALANCHES
Due to the heavy snowfall and blizzard affecting the Hakkari-Van highway, drivers experienced difficult moments. Five vehicles, including families, trapped between two avalanches that fell in succession near Çanaklı village, were rescued by the highway teams' efforts.
The Adıyaman family stranded on the road said, "There was heavy snowfall and fog. When we heard the sound of the avalanches, we decided to wait. Shortly after, avalanches fell on both sides of our vehicle. After notifying the highway teams, we were rescued and reached the city. However, there is hidden icing at the Sersola location at the entrance of Hakkari. Drivers need to be very careful, and if possible, they should not go out on the road at all."
Officials stated that the risk of avalanches and icing in the area continues and warned drivers to be cautious.
