Spain is experiencing a disaster due to heavy rains affecting the eastern and southern regions of the country. While 62 people have lost their lives due to the floodwaters, the government has established a crisis desk due to the loss of life and property caused by the weather conditions. "EMERGENCY CONTINUES"Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez called on citizens to "remain vigilant" due to the ongoing risk of flooding and water inundation caused by the heavy rain and storm that have affected the eastern and southern regions of the country for the last two days. After a meeting at the Crisis Desk established at the Moncloa, the Prime Minister's residence in Madrid, Sanchez addressed the cameras, stating, "The emergency continues. Floods and inundations are still causing damage." "WE WILL REBUILD THE DESTROYED BRIDGES, ROADS, AND SQUARES"Expressing condolences to the families and relatives of those who lost their lives due to the disaster, Sanchez stated that the entire Spanish society is in solidarity with the affected families. He said, "We will take all necessary precautions. We will rebuild the destroyed bridges, roads, and squares. We will use all the resources of the state. If necessary, we will also seek help from the European Union." Noting that the alarm status has not yet passed, Sanchez urged citizens to never let their guard down, not to put their lives at risk, and to continue staying at home unless absolutely necessary. REQUESTED THE DECLARATION OF NATIONAL MOURNINGLabor Minister Yolanda Diaz criticized some companies for asking their employees to come to factories and workplaces despite the "red alert" that has been in effect in Valencia since yesterday, stating that an investigation will be opened against these companies. Alberto Nunez Feijoo, the leader of the right-wing People's Party, the main opposition, immediately demanded the declaration of national mourning and the allocation of all state resources to these regions. On the other hand, local government officials in Valencia, which has been most affected by the adverse weather conditions, announced that all rail transport in the region has been halted. While education has been suspended in most parts of Valencia, Castilla-La Mancha, Andalusia, and Murcia, sports competitions have also been postponed. Additionally, road transport is limited in many districts of Valencia, Teruel, Cuenca, Albacete, Granada, and Malaga due to the collapse of roads and bridges. THERE ARE MANY MISSINGIt has been reported that in some districts, citizens fleeing from the flood and water inundation have taken refuge in shopping centers, and efforts are being made to provide assistance to those in these places. Rescue and aid efforts involve not only police, gendarmerie, firefighters, and civil aid organizations but also military units. According to the official figures released so far, at least 62 people have lost their lives due to the floods and water inundations affecting the eastern and southern regions of the country, while many others are reported missing.
