The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees representative in Syria, Gonzalo Vargas Llosa, reported that since the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime on December 8, 270,000 refugees have returned to their country.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Representative for Syria, Gonzalo Vargas Llosa, made a statement regarding the return of Syrian refugees to their home country.
270 THOUSAND SYRIAN REFUGEES HAVE RETURNED TO THEIR COUNTRY
Sharing data from the latest survey conducted on the return of refugees, Llosa stated, "Since the fall of the Assad regime, 270 thousand Syrian refugees have returned to their country, and many more plan to return next year."
MORE THAN 1 IN 4 WILL RETURN WITHIN 12 MONTHS
Llosa emphasized that more than 1 in 4 Syrian refugees plan to return within the next 12 months to rebuild their lives. He pointed out that the biggest obstacles to returning include concerns about current housing and property rights, security, access to basic services, and economic difficulties. He highlighted that more than 60% of refugees expressed a desire to visit Syria before making a final decision about returning.
