Last week, a fire disaster at the Grand Kartal Hotel in Bolu resulted in the death of 78 people and left 51 others injured.
OFFICIAL OF THE INSPECTION COMPANY IN CUSTODY
While the investigation into the fire disaster continues, a new development has emerged. Ali A., an official of FQC Global Consulting Inc., which was found to have conducted inspections at the hotel as part of the ongoing investigation into the hotel fire by the Bolu Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, was detained in Istanbul. The suspect, brought to Bolu by the teams, is currently undergoing procedures at the Provincial Gendarmerie Command.
19 PEOPLE ARRESTED
As part of the investigation into the Grand Kartal Hotel fire, Bolu Deputy Mayor Sedat Gülener, Acting Fire Chief Kenan Coşkun, and firefighter İrfan Acar were arrested last night. Ahmet Demir, the manager of Gazelle Resort and Spa Hotel, was also arrested by the court. Thus, the number of those arrested in the investigation has risen to 19. Sedat Gülener, Kenan Coşkun, İrfan Acar, and Ahmet Demir were taken out of Bolu Courthouse to be sent to prison. Meanwhile, 6 people were released under judicial control, and 1 person was released after their procedures at the prosecutor's office.
THE QUESTION OF HOW THE FIRE STARTED IS BECOMING CLEARER
On the other hand, the question of how the fire started is also becoming clearer. Allegedly, while restaurant staff were preparing breakfast before the fire, hot oil splashed from the plate grill and caught fire. Chef Faysal Yaver and kitchen staff Yusuf Karahanlı, Fidan Kurç, and Mehmet Gündüz, who saw flames rising from the kitchen, attempted to intervene in the fire. According to a report in Sabah, instead of using a fire extinguisher, the staff tried to extinguish the flames with water, causing the flames to grow larger and spread. It was recorded that the growing flames jumped from the uncleaned hood to the chimney, and from there spread to the roof, quickly engulfing the hotel.
EMPLOYEES RAN OUT IN FEAR
After the fire, it was noted that the kitchen staff panicked and ran outside, and that the hotel guests were not informed of the fire because the fire alarm did not work. The fire, which started on the 4th floor where the restaurant is located, quickly grew and engulfed the entire building.
4 EMPLOYEES HAVE ALSO BEEN ARRESTED
In the fire that resulted in the death of 78 people, the chef Faysal Yaver and kitchen staff Yusuf Karahanlı, Fidan Kurç, and Mehmet Gündüz, who were alleged to have caused the fire due to negligence, were arrested and sent to prison.
