Claims that Turkish Airlines benefits from the public budget have resonated widely in the public. The Communications Directorate stated in a statement that the claims contain disinformation, saying, "THY is a publicly traded company listed on Borsa Istanbul, which does not receive resources from the state budget, generates its income through its own activities, and is subject to independent auditing. It does not create any financial burden on the public or the general budget."
While claims that Turkish Airlines (THY) benefits from the public budget have sparked debate in the public, the Communication Presidency's Disinformation Combat Center made a statement regarding the issue. The statement indicated that the claims in question do not reflect the truth and contain disinformation.
"THY IS NOT AN INSTITUTION THAT RECEIVES FUNDING FROM THE STATE BUDGET"
The Communication Presidency's Disinformation Combat Center stated that the claims made about Turkish Airlines, the national flag carrier of Turkey, in some statements and social media posts contain false information. The statement emphasized that THY is not an institution that receives funding from the state budget.
In the statement made by the Center, it was said, "THY is a publicly traded company that does not receive funding from the state budget, generates its income from its own activities, is listed on Borsa Istanbul, and is subject to independent audit. It does not create any financial burden on the public or the general budget."
"SHARING CONTAINS DISINFORMATION"
The statement also expressed that portraying Turkish Airlines as being financed by the public budget does not reflect the truth. It was noted in the statement that unrelated items were brought together to target THY, and that such shares carry the nature of disinformation.
The Disinformation Combat Center warned the public against such claims directed at THY, one of Turkey's strong brands in the international arena, and informed citizens that they should not trust such content and shares.
The full statement is as follows: "The claims made in some statements and social media posts regarding Turkish Airlines, our country's flag carrier, contain disinformation. THY is a publicly traded company that does not receive funding from the state budget, generates its income from its own activities, is listed on Borsa Istanbul, and is subject to independent audit. It does not create any financial burden on the public or the general budget. Nevertheless, the discourse and shares that portray THY as being financed by the public budget and bring together unrelated items to target THY, one of Turkey's strongest international brands, are disinformation. The public is kindly requested not to trust such content, discourse, and shares."
