Hilmi Şen, who was elected as the Mayor of Balışeyh from the New Welfare Party, lost his life as a result of an armed attack by his cousin. It was claimed that Hilmi Şen, who had resigned from the New Welfare Party three months ago in response to statements directed at President Erdoğan, was preparing to join the AK Party before the attack.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The incident occurred around 10:00 AM yesterday in the TOKİ area of Balışeyh district. According to the information obtained, while Mayor Şen was on his way in an official vehicle to inspect the ongoing works in the district, he was attacked by his cousin Erdem Şen, with whom he had a feud. Mayor Şen, who was in the vehicle with his official driver Mikayil Çelikkol (40), Ömer Şengül (42), and Koray Kaya (45), was seriously injured in the attack.

DRIVER ALSO LOST HIS LIFE

Şen and his driver Çelikkol died at the Yüksek İhtisas Hospital where they were taken. The treatment of the other two injured individuals continues at the Faculty of Medicine Hospital. The assailant was detained by police teams in front of the municipal building after the incident. The funeral of Hilmi Şen (50), who was married and a father of two, will be held at the Central Mosque in Balışeyh district.
