The price of anchovies in Edirne dropped to 50 lira per kilogram, leading to a crowd at the Fish Market. As prices fell, citizens began buying anchovies by the kilogram, resulting in occasional queues in front of the stalls.
At the beginning of the season, the price of anchovies, which reached up to 400 liras per kilogram, dropped to 50 liras in Edirne. The decrease in prices brought smiles to both the tradesmen and the citizens.
"FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS YEAR, IT DROPPED TO 50 LIRAS"
Yusuf Çimen, a tradesman from the Fish Market, reminded that the season started with high prices. Stating that anchovies were previously sold at around 400 liras, Çimen said, "We have seen prices at 100 liras before, but this year it has dropped to 50 liras for the first time. There is a beautiful abundance during the month of Ramadan. We did not expect such a high demand; it is quite significant."
"SNOW CONTRIBUTED TO THE ABUNDANCE OF ANCHOVIES"
Çimen expressed that the snowfall contributed to the abundance of anchovies, stating that the sea found its own balance, leading to prosperity at the stalls. Explaining that approximately 2 tons of fish arrived at the stalls today, Çimen said, "Half of it is already running out. At this rate, we won't see 5 PM."
QUEUE FORMED
With the drop in prices, queues occasionally formed in front of the stalls as citizens bought anchovies by the kilogram.
