The TÜRK-İŞ Presidential Council convened under the leadership of its President Ergün Atalay to discuss the proposal by the Minister of Labor and Social Security, Vedat Işıkhan, to reduce the number of government representatives in the Minimum Wage Determination Commission. Speaking after the meeting, TÜRK-İŞ President Ergün Atalay emphasized that private sector employees are not receiving bonuses, stating, "Even in their own money, the employer decides for the workers; this needs to be resolved," and called for urgent legal regulation.
While the minimum wage agenda continues, TÜRK-İŞ President Ergün Atalay reacted to the lack of bonuses for workers in the private sector. Stating that "this is the worker's money, but the boss decides," Atalay emphasized that the bonus issue is as urgent a problem as the minimum wage.
WHILE THE COMMISSION DEBATE CONTINUES, THE AGENDA IS BONUS
The TÜRK-İŞ Presidential Council convened to discuss the proposal by Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan to reduce the number of government representatives in the Minimum Wage Determination Commission. However, TÜRK-İŞ General President Ergün Atalay, speaking after the meeting, directed his remarks particularly towards the bonus issue in the private sector.
"SOMEONE ELSE DECIDES ON THE WORKER'S MONEY"
Atalay reminded that private sector employees cannot benefit from the bonuses received from banks and used the following statements:
"This is the worker's own money... But bonuses are taken, and the boss decides whether to 'give' or 'not give.' This is unacceptable. An urgent legal regulation must be made for this."
Atalay emphasized that the lack of the worker's say in bonus agreements is a significant injustice.
"THE BONUS ISSUE IS AS IMPORTANT AS THE MINIMUM WAGE"
Stating that the bonus issue is not just a matter of wages, Atalay said that excluding workers from income generated through their labor creates a serious loss of rights. He expressed that this situation is "a priority issue as much as the minimum wage discussions."
MINIMUM WAGE STATEMENT: YOU CAN'T EVEN GET BY FOR A WEEK WITH THIS WAGE
In his statement, Atalay also touched on the minimum wage issue, saying that it is impossible to get by with the current wages:
"With this money, you can't even complete a week, let alone a month. The losses of minimum wage earners must be compensated, and a welfare share should be added."
Atalay emphasized that even if the commission structure changes, the real solution is "the fair determination of criteria."
"WE WILL NOT DISCUSS ANYTHING UNTIL AN OFFICIAL LETTER ARRIVES"
Stating that a decree from the ministry regarding the structure of the commission is awaited, Atalay expressed that it is not possible to take a stance without an official document. The decision regarding TÜRK-İŞ's future at the minimum wage table will become clear after the written regulation arrives.
