THE TOP 3 RANKINGS REMAIN UNCHANGED

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) shared the 2023 Provincial Gross Domestic Product data. Accordingly, based on the calculations of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at current prices at the provincial level; in 2023, Istanbul reached the highest GDP with 8 trillion 60 billion 358 million TL, accounting for 30.4% of the total GDP. Following Istanbul, Ankara with 2 trillion 538 billion 686 million TL and 9.6% share, and Izmir with 1 trillion 614 billion 161 million TL and 6.1% share.

THE PROVINCE WITH THE LOWEST INCOME IS TUNCELİ

In the last three ranks of GDP calculations at the provincial level, Tunceli with 22 billion 13 million TL, Ardahan with 19 billion 407 million TL, and Bayburt with 13 billion 214 million TL were included. The first five provinces with the highest share of GDP accounted for 54.02% of the total GDP in 2023.

KOCAELİ RANKED FIRST IN PER CAPITA INCOME

In 2023, Kocaeli ranked first in per capita GDP with 516 thousand 460 TL. Following Kocaeli were Istanbul with 510 thousand 733 TL and Ankara with 438 thousand 242 TL. In the calculations of per capita GDP at the provincial level, Şanlıurfa with 116 thousand 767 TL, Ağrı with 110 thousand 553 TL, and Van with 108 thousand 21 TL were in the last three ranks.

In 2023, per capita GDP was above the Turkey average in thirteen provinces.

ISTANBUL IS AT THE TOP IN ALMOST ALL ACTIVITIES

When examining the activities that constitute GDP; in 2023, Istanbul, which received the highest share of GDP at current prices, also ranked first in activities excluding agriculture, forestry, fishing, and other service activities. Istanbul's share of total information and communication activities was 64.8%, the share of total finance and insurance activities was 62.5%, the share of total professional, administrative, and support service activities was 45.9%, the share of total services sector was 40.4%, and the share of total construction sector was 28.9%. Konya ranked first among 81 provinces in the agriculture, forestry, and fishing sector with a share of 6.2%, while Ankara ranked first in other service activities with a share of 45.4%.

THE SERVICES SECTOR RECEIVED THE HIGHEST SHARE IN ISTANBUL

In 2023, Istanbul received a share of 40.4% from the total services sector, while the share of the services sector within the province's total GDP was 35.7%. The industrial sector ranked second with a share of 17.2% in Istanbul's total GDP, while professional, administrative, and support service activities ranked third with a share of 7.8%.

The annual GDP, with the chained volume index, increased by 5.1% in 2023 compared to the previous year, with an increase above the Turkey average in 44 provinces. The first three provinces with the highest increase in 2023 compared to the previous year were Şırnak with a change rate of 18.9%, Siirt with 18.2%, and Samsun with 15.8%. The three provinces with the highest decrease compared to the previous year were Zonguldak with 6.9%, Bayburt with 10.4%, and Artvin with a change rate of 16.0%.

ISTANBUL WAS THE PROVINCE THAT CONTRIBUTED THE MOST TO TURKEY'S GDP GROWTH IN 2023

The province that contributed the most to the annual GDP increase, with a chained volume index increase of 5.1% compared to the previous year, was Istanbul with 1.65%. Following Istanbul were Ankara with 0.96% and Kocaeli with 0.27%. The provinces that contributed negatively to the annual GDP growth in 2023 were Zonguldak, Artvin, and Gaziantep, each with a contribution of -0.03%.
