During the UKOME meeting held, the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality's request for a fare increase for public transportation became clear. The IMM proposed a 35% increase for public transportation fares. IMM'S 46% FARE INCREASE REQUEST WAS REJECTEDThe Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Transportation Coordination Center (UKOME) met on January 6, chaired by IMM Deputy Secretary General Gürkan Akgün. In the meeting held at Çırpıcı Social Facilities with the agenda of increasing public transportation fares, IMM proposed a 46.09% increase in fares for public transportation vehicles, taxis, school, and staff shuttles. Serdar Yücel, the 1st Regional Director of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, stated that this proposal was unacceptable. In the vote that followed the speeches, IMM's proposal for a 46.09% increase in transportation fares was rejected by a majority vote. Following this, it was decided that the proposal for an agreed increase in public transportation would be discussed again in the sub-committee. On the other hand, in the UKOME meeting held on August 29, 2024, the design determined by the votes of Istanbul residents for the new taxi transportation based on 2,500 applications was accepted by a majority vote.
