Due to heavy rainfall that started last night in Ünye district of Ordu, a site's retaining wall collapsed, resulting in the evacuation of a 48-apartment building.

A 48-apartment building in the Ünye district of Ordu was evacuated as a precautionary measure after a retaining wall collapsed.

The retaining wall at the top of the site, consisting of 3 blocks, collapsed in Burunucu neighborhood. The sliding soil heap damaged 6 apartments in Block C. Upon notification, 112 Emergency Health, AFAD, police, and municipal teams were dispatched to the scene.

Teams determined that no one was inside the apartments during the incident and security measures were taken in the surrounding area. AFAD teams conducting an investigation decided to evacuate the 48-apartment building as a precautionary measure. It was reported that citizens without a place to stay will be accommodated in dormitories by AFAD.

Ünye Mayor Hüseyin Tavlı told AA correspondent that 6 apartments in Block C, consisting of 48 independent sections, were damaged as a result of the retaining wall collapse. Tavlı stated that no one was inside the damaged apartments during the incident and emphasized that 39 of the apartments were occupied while 9 were vacant.

"WE WILL PROVIDE ACCOMMODATION UNTIL SEPTEMBER 13"

Tavlı emphasized that as a result of the investigation, it was decided to completely evacuate the building and said, "Homeowners will receive 24,000 liras from AFAD, and tenants will receive 13,000 liras in assistance. We will provide accommodation until September 13 for those who cannot find a place to stay at the Credit Dormitories Institution. After the removal and cleaning of the debris caused by the collapse, a new project needs to be evaluated if a new retaining wall is to be built. It will take some time for the work to begin and progress."
