The sign of the street named after former Tunceli Governor Tuncay Sonel, who is under detention as part of the Gülistan Doku investigation, has been removed.
A notable step was taken in Şanlıurfa's Birecik district regarding the street named after Tuncay Sonel, the former governor of Tunceli, who was detained as part of the Gülistan Doku investigation. Municipal teams removed the name signs on the street.
REACTION FROM THE NEIGHBORS
The name of Tuncay Sonel, who served as the Birecik District Governor between 2005-2008, was given to a street in the Bağlarbaşı neighborhood. However, after Sonel was detained in connection with the Gülistan Doku investigation, local residents reacted to the situation. The neighborhood's muhtarlık (local authority) and elder council officially applied to the municipality for the removal of the name.
MUNICIPALITY TOOK ACTION
In response to the requests, municipal teams removed the Tuncay Sonel signs located on the street. It was learned that official procedures for changing the street name have been initiated.
NEW NAME WILL BE MARTYR TEACHER
The neighborhood muhtarlık proposed to the municipality that the name of the street be changed to "Martyr Teacher Ayla Kara," who lost her life in the school attack in Kahramanmaraş. The petition requested that Ayla Kara's name be kept alive in the district.
