Lawyer Hatice Kocaefe was killed in Bursa by a person she had filed a foreclosure lawsuit against. The suspect of the armed attack, Hakkı Ç., claimed he aimed the gun at Elif Ç., saying, 'My intention was not to kill, I accidentally shot the lawyer.' 5 suspects, including Hakkı Ç., were arrested.
In Ağaköy District, connected to Gürsu in Bursa, a blood-curdling incident occurred on April 29. Tension between Lawyer Hatice Kocaefe and Hakkı Ç., who initiated enforcement proceedings against her sister over a debt matter, ended in bloodshed. The suspect opened fire from a car at a father and two sisters walking in front of a warehouse. In the attack, Elif Ç. was wounded in the knee, while lawyer Hatice Kocaefe was seriously injured by a bullet to her chest. Despite all medical interventions, Kocaefe could not be saved.
Murdered lawyer Hatice Kocaefe BLOCKED THEIR PATH AND OPENED FIRE According to allegations, after the enforcement process initiated due to Elif Ç.'s debt, tensions escalated between the parties. It was claimed that the suspect felt disturbed and issued threats because lawyer Hatice Kocaefe was handling the process. On the day of the incident, suspect Hakkı Ç. reportedly came to the area by car, blocked the path of the father and two sisters walking in front of the warehouse, and opened fire from the vehicle. In the attack, Elif Ç. was wounded in the knee, while Hatice Kocaefe was shot in the chest and died.
5 SUSPECTS ARRESTED Through a successful operation by the Public Order Branch Directorate Homicide Bureau teams, 7 individuals involved in the incident were detained. Following a meticulous investigation by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, Hakkı Ç. and others involved—A.Ç., E.Ü., S.S., H.S.—were arrested. V.A. and S.U. were released under judicial supervision.
"I SHOT UNINTENTIONALLY" DEFENSE Suspect Hakkı Ç., who gave a statement at the police station, claimed the incident was not planned, saying, "I did not set an ambush; I saw them by coincidence. Without getting out of the car, I fired towards their feet." He further defended himself with the words, "My intention was not to kill; I shot the lawyer unintentionally."
CONTRADICTS CAMERA FOOTAGE However, security camera recordings included in the investigation file revealed that the suspect drove around the village square for a while before the incident. The footage showed the suspect lingering in the same area and then heading toward the location where the attack took place.
In his statement, the suspect said he opened fire after seeing Elif Ç. and stopped when he noticed others nearby, adding that he fled quickly afterward and tried to hide in different locations. Later captured at a house where he was hiding, the suspect also handed over the weapon used in the incident to the police.
The attack itself was captured second by second on security cameras, showing the vehicle approaching, opening fire, and the two sisters collapsing to the ground.
The detained suspect was arrested by the court, while the investigation by the Bursa Provincial Police Department Public Order Branch teams continues.
